yes VW you are right gal erm must say there is a bit of a gap I will mind my own mind gaps valdez and leave the admin to admin. What with Corvus and Vanwoman both being made to live in a mess that is not of their own making I was muddled. x I'm always muddled Cwiket and it's getting worse. Even thinking of getting one of those Amazon Alexa things to help undo my muddling instaedof having lots of bits of paper with appointments and phone numbers written on. Mind you, got a cussing off the lad as he'd got one and on the day of his wedding I'd told it to do a 3am alarm call for that night, loud using a wolf howling.

Today I learned not to be so optimistic. The fekkin remains of the rotten post refuses to give up its hole in the ground. A stupid thing like that is going to end up costing £200-250.

Now where did I put the fuckin plasters??...😕 My sister once bought me a mandolin, a posh, grating device, and decided immediately that it would be too dangerous for someone as clumsy as me so she kept it. Ended up in A+E getting her fingers and knuckles sewn back up. That'll teach her to call me clumsy! 😎

i learnt today that 135 amp truck batteries are fooking heavy Too right, and the plastic handles never look strong enough. There is something nice about a big, new battery though. I'm such a geek.

Feed water into the hole if its in earth and keeping wiggling the post hard.It will give up in the end.I just did it to a post 2ft down.Very satisfying when the dam thing came out.

Interesting advice. The builder who is taking on the job suggested that even if I got the stump out, slotting another gate post in place will result in a void where water will gather. Its three foot down and about 14 inches of recalcitrant wood tightly wedged remains. Cant even get a long drill deep enough to chew it up with out spending a day and a night at it. Hes bringing a kango and jenny. The people that set it were serious players, they used poured concrete.

why dont you get a crow bar/breaking bar and sledge hammer, and keep pestering it?once you splinter off one side the rest will come out easy.If you tip concrete in the hole before you put another post in a void wont be there. He stands to make a lot of money his way.Or leave it put a bit of concrete on top, leave to set a put another post in a bit less deep?Ive put in loads of 6ft panels and 2ft holes are deep enough with a 4x4inch post.Even if its windy ,other posts and panels will support a slightly less deep post as a whole.Dont get ripped off.

Cross bar/spike just doesnt work. The gate is a 12 footer this is the best picture I can find - you might need a magnifying glass

I had a concreted wooden gate post snap off last year . I bashed a 75cm long metal spike into the wooden stump and put a sling on the spike and used a farm jack. Post out of ground now , but still sitting there as a feature.

Its not a fence post tis a gateway post then.Everything is and needs be a good bit beefier.Being more feeble nowadays and also needing to rehang a gate and renew a post,im going to dig deep for the hanging post, the latch post is not so needy of strength. If you are regating a tip to stop theiving, they nick gates my way,I set a heavy chain in the concrete of the hanging side and loop it round the bottom bar of the gate on the hinge side.Stops it getting lifted so easy.Your place looks a good bit more civilised than my place,a leafy lane rather than a wild jungly wood.

Yep Im off the beaten track despite which lost vehicles cant resist an open tarmac drive, particularly if they cant see the house. Curiosity plays its part. Usually wrong turns are apologetic, but sometimes the driver is annoyed with me ! Not easy to relax with the gate off.
I reckon the cost now is is escalating to £300+
