I have got a very good head torch Vw,but sadly it runs on batteries and is not self charging. I am always looking out for gadgets that do not cost the earth :-)

Just get a USB battery charger and some rechargeable batteries, you can charge them off the engine with a cig lighter adapter.

Sure enough that is better than using throw away batteries, but it still needs fossil fuel power to get me there. I am starting to try and get everything solar or wind up where I can, meanig that renewable energy will be responsable for most of my enery needs. You are not wrong though, usb charged is still progress on previous options we have had :-)

You can get solar battery chargers, but they are very slow.

After the Guard Puppy was so badly behaved about a month ago, deliberately pulling me off my feet and getting very aggressive towards other dogs; I’ve done massive amounts of training with him.
When we went to the woods this afternoon I deliberately walked at a time we would see other people and dogs, and he really was a good boy. My heart was bursting with pride at how much he has come on, so before I left the woods to come home I decided we would do a little obedience training. When I told him, “Down.” he refused point blank. He was checking out the whole area to see WHY I wanted him to lie down. I have another command, “Focus” which means he has to look directly into my eyes, just for a second, which brings him back to listening to me (usually).
Nope, he would not focus either, was more convinced than ever that I was trying to stop him from noticing something. 😂
Oh well, you win some, you lose some. I had him sit instead (always make sure that you finish a session with a reason to praise your animal) and then we went home. Other than that one bout of naughtiness he was awesome and I was grinning all the way. 🥰

I find that it is good to give our four footed furry friends something to obsess over as that can be used as a trick to snap them out of any trance and make them pay attention; My last fella was bizarrely mzd about rugby !!! I played with him with the rugby ball often and he even learnt not to catch a forward pass ( which is more than can be said for some players ). He became very skilled with a rugby ball to a point of we put on a show for about a hundred people in the car park in cardiff before an all blacks game !!
Whenever there was a tricky situation coming up all I had to do was say rugbyh and boom,I nhad his attention,it really was very handy.
Even when I had to have him put to sleep in old age, there was a second of panic in him just as the first injection kicked in and I said rugby and he went off with that as his last thought,it was lovely :-)
I have always found obsession a useful tool when dealing with a dog so maybe get him a toy and name it something short so that you can apply the same tactic as an emergency get out claus when he does not want to listen !!
It takes work and dedication to bring up a perfectly obedient dog, though you do not want to take it too far or they become a pet rether than a dog,it realy is a fine line.
Am sure that you will get there maggie,as you have got both experience and wisdom on your side xx

He certainly is, Vannie. He’s about six stone at present possibly more and will top out at around eight, eight and a half stone.

She's an absolute beauty but still thinks she's puppy who can sit on people's laps even though she's bordering on 9 stone now !!!

Wast the Dogue De Bordeaux have such short lives. My neighbour had one, he died in front of us, probably from an embolism or heart attack. It was very sudden, so sad. He was only four and a half. They are very fine dogs, but I wouldn't have one because their average life span is five.
