Wast the Dogue De Bordeaux have such short lives. My neighbour had one, he died in front of us, probably from an embolism or heart attack. It was very sudden, so sad. He was only four and a half. They are very fine dogs, but I wouldn't have one because their average life span is five. I'd heard that too. My brother is very thorough when it comes to selecting his chosen canine...did his research on their health, went through a respected breeder and has her checked regularly. He's so cautious about her diet and exercise as for a big dog they can easily strain muscles etc. Fingers crossed he's got a good 'un but you never really know.

I've managed contact with some of the allotment gardeners - I speak no Spanish - one speaks a little English and another speaks good English, which is great. Anyhoo, the one who speaks a little English gave me some veg today - three little green peppers (not chilli) and three pink and white stripey things that look like very small marrows, very small. I will cook them tomorrow. I think he was saying they are organic. I thought that was really kind of him. So that was one of the good things that made me smile today.

Sounds great milliemercedes . That has to be the way forward, make friends with allotmenteers and get fresh veg without having to grow it 😁

Yes a womans charms and ye olde battering of the eyelids is very good for getting fresh produce. It has taken me years to learn how to match that charm without having boobs and other female parts !! A good smile, politeness and genuine interest in their goings on does work wonders and will often pay dividends when on the road, especially when they see that you are genuinely interesetd in their doings and are not after anything.
Its the same in france with les paysans ( the peasants ) , they mostly are not well educated but they know a genuine person when they meet one and dont ever think yourself better than them :-)
Enjoy your pink and white stripey oven bake or soup :-)

The pair of us have just been to a wine tasting...I know that sounds very posh but have never been to such a do in our lives before. If I'm honest a bit like a fish out of water! Anyhow, there was one particular chilled white wine (certainly not the best wine there) that in some way stirred a faint memory. Then the memory came flooding back in to what passes as a brain. It reminded me almost overwhelmingly of a holiday at Cap d'Agde where we went shortly after we met about 30 years ago. Sitting around the pool with the salade du jour, french bread and a cold bottle of a light white wine. I doubt very much it was the same type of wine but non the less it generated my happy thought of the day. Still have my favourite photo of t'other half sipping a glass of the wine by the poolside...happy days and happy thought for tonight

My current client has a cancer and has only got a few years to live tops which is not the smiley bit. The smiley bit is seeing the smile on his face every day that he has come out of his house and seen the progress being made to the house with the pinting that I am doing. To know that I am giving him such great pleasure when he has really been going through the mill gives me a huge smile too. I will be doing a bigger section of the house in a few months time and its nice knowing that when I come back and start on that it will give him great pleasure again :-)
I did consider carryin on to do the whole lot now,but if I chip it all out and bad weather comes in,then the house will end up being less weather proof over the winter,so best wait until spring and it also gives him something to look forward to. xx

Just finished part one of my current job and am now going to be on hoilday for five or six months and living well off all the hard graft that I have put in these last few months. So having plenty of time to do my thing coming up has certainly put a smile on my boat race :-)

Thank you kindly vw. I am staying put for at least the next two weekends then will see if I can find a way to get to burgundy as want to see the dentist there, but lockdown has been extended for another two weeks so that may slow my plans down a little. Going to be hellish to find wifi once I am on the road as bars will not be opening until the third phase of coming out of lockdown in mid January so will have to get back on here as and when I visit friends en route.
Looking forward to a bit of time off as have been pushing hard for a little while, but with a van to find and dentist prices etc it needed to be done. Its nice to know that when I get back down to this part of france next year there is probably 5 grands worth of work awaiting me so even if funds get lowish,I can restock the coffers :-)
