Didn't see that coming Cris. Not. No and once UK businesses start to grasp the 'rules of origin' which most seem oblivious to as does the government and grappling with 10% import tarrifs therell be lots more companies folding or moving to the EU...odd that 😏 Several food producers in East Anglia have already gone bust recently. Ive no doubt vauxhall and Nissan and Toyota will leave the UK and even JLR..why would they stay it would be commercial suicide to stay. Not as thoughit wasnt predicted www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jul/29/brexit-could-spell-end-of-ellesmere-port-plant-says-vauxhall-owner

What I can't get is how anybody in the UK or even Europe could source the raw materials locally to make batteries.

You cant and manufacturing here relies on imports of raw materials or components. There simply won't be a manufacturing sector here soon because it wont be sustainable or viable to import materials or components and absorb tarrif costs...all this was spelled out long ago and was ignored and is ignored by politicians who have sabotaged this country...theyre all treasonous traitors...they should be in prison.

I agree with what you are saying, but Weardale sits on top of a granite, providing minerals in solution. Lithium has been discovered there recently and will be mined for batteries, I think the batteries themselves will also be manufactured there.

Oh fantastic. I'm sure that will do the local environment a world of good! Far less harmful than you might think, Vannie. This is my stomping ground, and the same brines which contain lithium also provide lead, silver and associated minerals. The area has been heavily mined for these in the past, the remains of the industry are everywhere, but to extract lithium, instead of the destructive mining techniques of the past, all you need is pretty much a borehole. Of course there is no guarantee that this is all we'll get, I don't trust mining companies an inch, but the mining of heavy metals in the past has given the area a unique and unexpected biodiversity, and barytes is still being extracted in the area, but mostly you would not know about it.

That was the whole purpose of the mega battery plant that never got built,so theyd be built here, All the mega battery plants are in Europe. Nobody is going to build battery plants or start mining if their main customers Ford Vauxhall JLR Nissan etc are highly likely to move to Europe anyway to avoid border tarrifs that are directly as a result of Brexit.
