This is something I come across on a regular dog walk, but its always been surrounded by scrub so not easy to get a good pic. Its finally been opened up but I'm not sure if its particularly rare or are there others about....anyone know what it is? First correct answer gets a free pen!!! (conditions apply, pickup only in Dorset)

Airfield tower to shoot at low flying planes, there called 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun tower
The towers were placed near potential targets and were designed to put the guns high enough to spot low-flying enemy aircraft flying at 200 miles an hour and engage them.

Well done Bungo,it is indeed an AA tower,I think your one was ready to shoot down planes before they were even invented...thats what I call forward planning.

Is it on MOD land? It looks like an observation tower to watch army manoevers.

It's to commemorate the Irish Land Act or maybe the time that the best part of Maggie Thatcher was dribbling down her mummies thigh.
