What can you say š¢ Awww I be sooo sorry to hear and see this NomadCris ... My thoughts are with you and your friend and there family X I know it be so hard because no words cannot say or ease both heartbreak of loss of loved ones and then the fear of feeling terrified for their loved ones due to this Terrible Virus is just impossible to say in any amount of words But Iām sure having you there for them and knowing that they have have you as a friend who they can turn to and share there fears and heartbreak with .. means more to them and is far better to them than any amount of words could ever say

I hear that the reason soap and water is effective is due to the soap damaging the fatty coating of the virus, making it useless. Any soap or disinfectant bleach or high percentage alcohol will destroy the lipid or phospholipid surface of the virus and dehydrate it and cause its decay just as it will destroy the cell surface integrity of living cells or bacteria . But its only effective at killing virus outside of the body. However,You cant ingest soap or bleach it will destroy body cells and kill you. Studies have shown the virus can live in air 3 hrsx on different surfaces different periods of time from around 4 hrs on copper to 3 days on plastic, glass or steel so obviously regular disinfection is important.

Most food packaging is plastic. What about taps keys and door handles as well? People forget about these Typical story from one of my mother's friends "I'm being very careful, as soon as I got in I washed my hands before I unpacked the shopping and put it away" Nooooooo!

It could send you mad constantly thinking about it. You go to the toilet in the supermarket, touching doors on the way. You wash your hands, picking the bag up you brought with you before you washed your hands
Now, washing your hands is never going to be a bad thing, don't get me wrong. But there's a limit you can do without resorting to a full hazmat suit and mask.

Agree totally VW.Also you dont know who touched your goods before you, apart from the cashier hence wash it all.Theres the airborne stuff too they are finally admitting exists.Yet cant find masks or gloves except marigolds. What about bread etc?Who made it and how safe were they.Warburtons claim their bread was untouched at any point til after wrapping now sounds ok.It is a chance thing still.Avoiding people and any close contact best bet.The rich small holders and farmers should be okay.

It makes me laugh really, people are so afraid to go out but they are happy to order take aways and have them made and delivered by god knows who. Here in NW London the likes of Uber eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat must be experiencing a boom. All the restaurants that have closed down are now doing take aways

Also, the takeaway driver has probably met more people in a day than many have met in a week during lockdown.

Also, the takeaway driver has probably met more people in a day than many have met in a week during lockdown. The takeaway driver probably lives in a house with more people than we meet in a week. Not wishing to look down on anybody but that's the reality of life around here. Delivery drivers are almost invariably young blokes with very little English who are being exploited, much the same as the people who work in the kitchens preparing the food.

I believe there's more than one strain, some stronger than others. That would explain why some people have little better than flu, others die of it, of all ages. I hope I get the weak strain....

Until theres a vaccine or an effective anti-viral against it then we are all at risk and that could be over 12 months away. For the country to get herd immunity where it cannot find enough hosts to spread to means 60% of the uk population or over 40 million of us getting it. For now the only defence is distancing and disinfectant.
I think takeaways are a big risk -too big a risk - but anything coming to your home has to be treated as potentially dangerous. Post, parcels, shopping deliveries. Post and parcels can be left in sun for a day the UV will kill virus but cant do that with shopping so you have to be careful how you deal with that.
Supposedly pickers and packers are wearing gloves youve no idea if they are,its your responsibility to take the necessary precautions and assume everything is a potential risk and disinfect depending on packaging type.

But there's a limit you can do without resorting to a full hazmat suit and mask. When you work in frontline primary care environment you get used to it,you get tuned to the cross contamination threat and it becomes second nature. People are going to have to become more aware of surface transfer and cross contamination for their own good. More so.out of the home in shops, supermarkets, fuel stations, cash machines, card readers, etc etc and things arriving at their home. To be fair it would do us all a lot of good generally as to date not much is cleaned before we use it. Shopping trolleys are not rlutinely cleaned and shop door handles rarely are. People routinely go shopping or to work with flu and bad colds and cough their germs everywhere. Maybe theyll think a bit more about what theyre doing.
