I'm off to my daughter's today. She lives maybe three miles away, practically next door, and asked me, "Is it not too far for the first time out?"

You can see why they stopped making things that last, Keith, no-one would have ever made any other money! Lol, mad, isn't it, something relatively simple that will last such a long time (and presumably has parts that can be replaced if need be) but instead we've got all the other rubbish that conks out and has to be binned. As human beings we have made a lot of mistakes haven't we. Good that you got it on the door quickly enough. I'm wondering if Mrs Keith is now sorting a bell for herself so she can summon you when required Lol x Yes, the mechanical bell is pretty well a bell for life! The O/H has a handbell, so we can summon each other from the back garden for a cup of tea when it's ready, or even a meal. We have a regular 'Afternoon Tea' which changes time as the seasons change; about 3.30pm in the depths of winter if someone is out there tidying up, to as late as 6pm at midsummer when working in the garden, and when the day seems to go on forever.... Afternoon tea is unbeatable any time of day, I do like the idea of a bell, I might try it on my son Lol

Amazing how strong they are when they start pulling. Glad your mum came back for you Lol, a friend of mine did similar, was walking home from the shops with that feeling she'd forgotten something, checked her bag, purse, list, keys, everything there, couldn't think what it was but couldn't shake the feeling. She'd left the baby outside the post office Lol you can tell these things happened a long time ago, people would have a meltdown about things like that now xx

Well I leapt out of bed this morning with alacrity, after opening my eyes and seeing a gigantic spider on my bedroom wall.
I tiptoed about looking for a big enough container to trap and release it outside, and got stepladders so I could reach it without startling it; giant house spiders are FAST!
Managed to catch it, carefully took it into the garden, to discover that it was, in fact, deceased,an ex-spider. For a moment I thought I had trapped a moulted skin which would have been worse, as that would have meant a bigger spider was roaming around, but no.
