Getting ready for tonight's mission.we 've got 1 brahma hen on her own in a pen.so guess who's the only one on site to creep round there in the dark to move her in with the same breed pen next door?🙄 Are brahmas the really big chickens? I think my neighbor had two roosters, huge birds.

I sat around waiting for my bike to be delivered. Just checked the tracking as it's quarter to nine, and 'arrives today' has mysteriously changed to expected to arrive 9th or 10th. That's frustrating Parrot, I hope it turns up soon x

Today we - mostly me - replaced the front door bell. The electronic one was dead when the postman arrived with a small parcel, but luckily we heard him outside, cursing the silent bell push. Examination of the dead units showed the little sender was working, but the sealed unit receiver had packed up completely, even the test light button wasn't working, and new batteries did nothing. For an electronic unit it had lasted well, the best part of eight years, how time flies... In the hardware drawer I found the original bell, taken off when the door was replaced eight years ago. This is purely mechanical, and lives on the back of the front door, with a pin going through the door to the front bell push. The bell cover is rotated clockwise to wind up the powerful spring inside when required. When the bell push is pushed, the pin trips the spring which rotates the bell dome anti-clockwise, and a small hammer whacks the dome as it goes. The only tricky bit was drilling a 4mm hole dead straight through the door. This bell is now operating nicely and makes a lively clanging that can be heard throughout the flat. This mechanical bell must be all of 50 years old, and still works well - electronics can't compete! These bells were made in Sheffield back in the 50's and 60's, and are still made and can be bought today, but at rather an expensive price: doorbellworld.com/products/imperial-brass-wind-up-doorbell-with-60mm-brass-push-button?variant=43915412209880¤cy=GBP&gad_source=5

You'll be lady of the manor now Lol, you need a decent pair don't you, wet feet are no fun. Unless they're wet from the calm, clear waters of a tropical beach, maybe Lol. Good luck with the hen moving and the hay man! Yes I've never spent so much time on tics, I don't think our other cat ever had one all the years we had her, this one comes in with them daily and although he's short haired it's quite a thick coat so I have to search thoroughly to find them. I do treat him with that drop on stuff from the vet which I thought is supposed to stop tics attaching but no-one seems to have told the tics Lol

Lol, mad, isn't it, something relatively simple that will last such a long time (and presumably has parts that can be replaced if need be) but instead we've got all the other rubbish that conks out and has to be binned. As human beings we have made a lot of mistakes haven't we. Good that you got it on the door quickly enough. I'm wondering if Mrs Keith is now sorting a bell for herself so she can summon you when required Lol x

I'm so glad I no longer need to buy in hay. It was a constant struggle getting it delivered when I had horses.

Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with people sometimes. Hope he gets there eventually!

The O/H has a handbell, so we can summon each other from the back garden for a cup of tea when it's ready, or even a meal. We have a regular 'Afternoon Tea' which changes time as the seasons change; about 3.30pm in the depths of winter if someone is out there tidying up, to as late as 6pm at midsummer when working in the garden, and when the day seems to go on forever....
