was thinking about one of these but
A what can it do other than warmth ?
my burner keeps me warm
cooks food either on the top or in the oven and even toast/ crumpets over the open bit
heats water
and last but not least looks good and can watch the flames

You could set the thermostat so when you get back from a cold bike ride everything is already warm when you get inπ

Not all vans have room for a burner. Mine definitely doesn't. Also, if your van is live/work, I don't know if doing a delivery or removal with a burner fitted would go down too well. Even if it's not lit!

If you read my post, you will see I'm not saying a burner is a bad thing either. I said not every van has room for one, that's all

I have a Chinese diesel heater, just fitted. It's wonderful. I'd like a burner, but can't afford what I would like, and the diesel one was cheap.
Mind you, I'll eventually have a burner, too. π

In an ideal situation and if you have the space,a woodburner is best,it looks great, you can cook on it as well as heat the place and the fuel is free. Why have anything else if you have room?
The downside is only that you have to go looking for a cut wood fuel and store it somewhere and clean the ash out and reload it with fuel quite regularly which is one thing you may not want to do if youre feeling ill or are injured.
Id much prefer a burner but i dont have room.
Ive got gas or electric blown heating, neither are cheap, especially not the electric heater, but apart from change the gas cylinder every few weeks or months its no real work.
The only reason id look at a Chinese diesel heater is theyre cheap, its a backup heating system for my trailer and if it was cheaper to run than using gas that would be a bonus.
I may put one in my van because the cab heating is abysmal.
I think as OffGrid suggested, it would probably be a good unit to have to preheat your home if youve been out before youve got burner going or if you dont feel well enough to deal with lighting a burner.
The only minor concern ive got is running down the battery, whether they use much fuel and that theyre a bit noisy.
In a small compact living space not big enough for a burner theyre probably a perfect heating solution.

Anybody know if they are tolerant to mixed fuel? Say three to one diesel and petrol? One of the misfuel guys here will give away their mixed fuel, as they have to pay to get it collected. It could be mixed with fresh diesel too.

It could be mixed with fresh diesel too. I think petrol vapour would be dangerous,if you could separate it you'd have some cheap heat it's not as if you're risking damaging an engine.

Heating the fuel in a fractionating column. The different fuels separate off at different temperatures, thats how they make petrol diesel etc from crude oil. Exhibit A Exhibit B
