Bonjour mes amis ( hello my friends),
I sadly announce to you the sad news that I have learned this week in that I shall very soon have to send cockney upto the spirit in the sky. He has been suffering a bit of late and I have seen a big decline in his health over the last six months. I took him to the vet a few days ago and It turns out that he has got a large prostate and a hernia forming that has pushed his rectum out of form making toileting next to impossible. I have got him on steroids to try and help a little and parrafin oil ( not the burning type ) to help soften his stools and now he is just trying to crap all the time, but it just sort of makes it out and drips down his bum. He has also got an infection that is causing him problems.
I was hoping to take him on one more travel aruond france to say goodbye to friends who he loves, but am now thinking that I may have to offer him the ultimate kindness next week and take the suffering away from him.
As an 11 year old swiss sheppard with arthritis and a drooping back end,I believe that putting him through the stress of a mage operation will be too much for him and not to mention bloody expensive too,so am quite sure that I am going to get him send off to wherever good dogs go next week.
This is not a whinge from an upset friend however, but moreso a celebration for a dog that has lived a superb life.
Cockney on our travels has run across every moutain range in europe (except in scotland),he has played with wolves, had a face off with a bear and has had a life befitting of such a cool guy. ( lets just forget his dominance problems for now !! )
I shall no doubt find it a bit strange to begin with not having him there to begin with having lived in a yurt and two vans with him in the last ten years, but will also find solace in the lack of responsibility and the upgraded freedom that will come from his passing,so for sure there will be plenty of positives coming from his demise, though needless to say I would put those off for longer if it did not mean him having to suffer, which I shall not prolongate.
I thought that I would let you guys know as you have heard much of our travels together and will feel like you sort of know the old fella.
I shall let you know when the kindness has been done.
These photos are just a few of many that shows you how cool his life has been,so please raise a glass to the great life my four footed friend has led.
Love and light to you all
Fly and cockney xx
I shall add a few more soon xx

So sorry to be reading this, my thoughts are with you and the pup. It's a pain I know too well and to me worse than losing a human friend.

Oh mate, I know you wish us all to celebrate his life, but I still can’t help feeling sad. The loss of a loyal friend hurts indeed, but I also understand the kindness you are about to undertake. Oh I shall be raising a glass or Two to cockney, a cool dog indeed. Love and light to you both. x

Thanks guys.
Of course there is a sadness about this, but death is as natural as birth and part of what nature gives us,so rather than be self indulgent and caught up in unhappy emotions,I prefer to look at the positives. He has had a great life and has hit old age and the lucky bastard got to hang with me ;-)
Not saying that there wont be a tear or two as it will be a loss of a soul mate, but I will certainly not get caught up in a bout of self pity. He would bite my bollox off if he knew I was doing that and not just having fun and being happy !!
If cockney could share his philosophy with you it would be " Just chase the ball ' !! dogs are certainly like their owners ;-)
Anyhow,I am fly, bringer of light-sadness would indeed be an indulgence, albeit one that would be understood and expected by others.
Just chase the ball people :-)

A good life well lived with a caring human - a dog couldn't ask for more. I'll raise a glass to him, and one to you for making his life a happy adventure.

Thank you all so very much, your kind words give me extra strengh and resolve.
There is an area in my woods that I call my sculpture park where there are a load of gnarly old tree trunks pushed together and some of the natural sculptures are lovely. Cockney has always been very fond of one side of the sculpture park and has dug out over many stays there a great big bowl in the earth and a couple of linking tunnels underneath one of the trunks.
I think that it would be very fitting to dig him a resting place there as it has always been a happy place for him to be.
I am not one that gives much thought to graves and the likes as by that time I believe the spirit has gone on with its journey elsewhere, but I think it would be a fitting monument to bury him there, well,as long as I can find a vet that will give me his body after sending him to sleep.
I will dig fairly deep if I can and then will put a small cairn of stones over the top to help stop the remains getting dug up instantly by foxes or badgers.
Another good pic that I found here is one of cockney watching a group of chamois up in the moutains,he very much wanted to go and play with them !!!!
And a few hours later and a lot of creeping around the mountainside I managed to get close enough to get the pics of the guys who interested him

I'm with you on knowing the spirit departs to follow its journey with the last breath (more or less) but I'm glad you have a place for his body to rest.
