I don't do fashion. My van doesn't have microchips, and will run on veg oil. My mobile's an old one which does for me. I like the internet, but don't have any time for a lot of it, specially the common forms of 'social media', forums accepted. I live off grid and have solar power, but only for mobile charging and lights. Candles are soooo dangerous! What bits of modern life do you like, and dislike?

I like the protection we mostly get from the law. A couple of times I might have died without it. (Psycho ex). I also like diesel, it keeps me moving, though so does veg oil. Otherwise, I can take it or leave it. If I thought I could hack it going horsedrawn, then I would do so, but not without a partner; I would sometimes need help caring for the horses, though mostly I manage pretty well, also, I would feel safer with a partner.

Don't like computers,& everyone's reliance on them. Don't like modern vehicles with built in obsolescence & all them fuckin electrics. Don't like the way everyone (me included) has to carry a mobile phone & be contactable 24/7. Don't like the pace of life & seeing everyone in such a rush & the constant pirsuit of richness & worldly goods that nobody really needs. I like the security of having access to affordable mobile comms. I like cleaner more reliable transport up to a point.I like the contentment with simple things that only middle age has opened my eyes to.

I like the internet and running water and a bit of electric , that's about it . I have a truck , but I have a horse too and could make do with that most of the time . I don't have a mobile phone ,microwave , dishwasher ,iron , sky or the like, gas , or mains sewerage . I prefer to do stuff my self too rather than paying and I don't like the throw away concept when stuff can be repaired . I am driven by available daylight rather than a clock

So on board with you on all this corvus, next lifetime round I'd like to start life in a tribe of animals that all works together and looks after each other and snuggles up in a nest together.........shame humans love wiping the wild things out for their monetary value though.......still I guess that's called survival of the fittest or something like that...
Always had a dream about a true community based on mutual respect and sharing of resources, skills, enthusiasms, knowledge, energy, youth and wisdom etc etc - maybe these hippy forum places are it.......so far so good big love must prevail xxxx

I love the internet and the fashions I have to admit. I don't like the attitude of some people, manners seem to have just disappeared and of course the violence around.

I like the technology, in the way of communication and information, it’s good that we can talk to, view, and generally glean any information that we want, it’s just a shame that as human beings we cant use it in a way to live in peace and love with each other, and still have to result to wars, hostility and generally being unpleasant . Modern health care has got to be up there somewhere as well, yes, I know we all moan about waiting lists, and appointments running late, but this year alone, my wife has had two life saving operations, my mother has had a pacemaker and will be having her cataracts seen to, and my father has just got the news that his cancer is in remission. Without modern healthcare Three of the most important people in my life, would no longer be with us. Law and order is a good thing, but not to the persecution of ordinary folk, trying to make a humble living and get by ( trying to ban people living in vans springs to mind ). Don’t like stupid laws or arrogant officers, common sense should prevail ( don’t lock up the old person as they haven’t got a tv license, but let the doorstep thug walk free ). My grandfather came from the day of using plough horses, grew veg, no tv, freezers or microwaves, grannie hand washed and used a mangle, they had no car, or phone, but if you needed help or hand with something, you went to see a neighbor and vise versa. They also used to walk to town for market days, never locked their doors. Life was simpler then.

Hey ... lovely groovy peeps - so good to read real loving, caring, respecting stuff - so rare these days, when it's all retail/advertising/multimedia criminality. I was going to use the word "bollocks" or "shite" etc etc - but there's nowt wrong with bollocks (hey it is where I was born from) and shite, well we do it every day and without recycling like that we'd be pretty fecking uncomfortable in a very short space of time........and there's knowt like good compost for growing new things !
TIME TO RECLAIM OUR ROOTS MANOEUVRES XXXX

Actually I like modern life because I "harvest" the bits I like and totally ignore the bits I don't. I like being able to look up absolutely anything, however obscure. I like being able to contact friends and family, I like being able to talk to people around the world. I like youtube, email, texts and journey planners. I like ebay and freecycle, plenty of fish and shops that open all night.

kind off miss old days, going to pub to meet people, i kind of miss just having a mobile simply for making calls, thats it, cant remeber last time i talked to a mate on a phone,
If i could cherry pick tech, Mobile phone, just for calls, internet, just to find info and buy and sell stuff, with a bit of chat once a month, the motor car defo freed a lot of people,
I am ludite, stuck in 1999 with a crappy old nokia,

I will not have a mobile phone. They are a pain in the arse in so many ways , and one less thing to loose/break/be disturbed by/become a slave too . I had one from 1995-2000. Never again , and in those days all it was ,was a phone . Email is the way forward . You call the shots

Good theory Om,but I'd be lost without my phone. Don't do 'puters so I couldn't conversate with all my "family" on here without mine. To be fair tho, I can still ignore it when it rings if I feel like it.
