Always sorry to hear of pups crossing the rainbow bridge. I don't know if human painkillers would be suitable for a dog but some research and if feasible I'd have gone for it and sod family who can fend for themselves. If you have a dependent animal you cannot turn your back on it.

Our old girl's pain killers are the cheapest thing she's prescribed. We just cut the meds bill in half by getting them online with a vet prescription.

What I Think Be Sooo Wrong About Animal Doctors Here In UK And All Over Is That Animal Medicine They Say To Give Them Can Sometimes/A Lot Of The Time Be MORE Money/Costs More Than Human Medicines ( Simply Because They Prey On Human Carers Emotions And Feelings Knowing Humans Will Do And Will Pay Anything For There Beautiful Animal Babies.. Which To Me Be Sooo Very Very Wrong And Sad That They Do This/That:( Just As When Our Faithful Animal Babies Go To The Forever Sleep/Rainbow Bridge They Prey On Human Heartache And Get Many Humans Into Lots Of Debt And Cause More Sadness With Ways Of Charging Loads Of Money For Ways To Keep There Ashes With Us Or Place To Final Sleep:(... Sadly What They Also Do For Humans As BOTH Human And Animal Can Cost Hundreds Of Pounds And Run Into Thousands Of UK Pounds To Place Them To Rest In There Final Journey ..It Be So Sad And So Wrong That Even In Our Worst Most Vulnerable Human Times We Are Preyed Upon For GREED:( And PROFIT:(

Unfortunately you are right danann. We've being going to the same vet for over 20 years. It took them ten years to stop pushing 'prescription' food at me. That said, it's not ALL about the money with our vet. We don't do insurance. To me, it's much better to pay the vet bill than insurance. We only get a big bill once in a while, insurance is every month. I'm also concerned that animals on insurance get procedures they don't need. Currently one of ours has a urinary issue. The vet offered a dry food, the only form of the food available. I researched the condition and food, and it turned our a dry food is the WORST form of food you can give. I put him on Corn Silk, and an there's been a big improvement.
Anybody know if Cannabis Oil can be given to dogs? I'd really like to stop giving the old girl Tramadol. She can't take the regular vet pain relief due to her poor kidney function.

Currently, our dogs haven't had commercial food for a year. I have tins of dog food in the cupboard, but haven't needed to open one as I said for a year. I call it junk food, and it's more like a treat for them, in the same way as a Mc D should be for children. Mine are eating out of date minced beef pies at the moment!! In a day it will be KFC...

I have looked into this quite a bit now,and have read and evaluated all that all of what you have wrote and have communicated with a few people who work in vets and the most common thing that I have read that I shall be giving a try via the natural route is Glucosamine and chondroitin. I thank you all as cockney does from the bottom, top and both sides of our hearts for your thoughts and advice and will keep you informed on how the old fella gets on.
Love and light to you all
Fly and cockney xx

Thanks guys,I certainly give hime all that he needs and a bit more.
We were playing rugby together this morning before going on a few mile stroll in the rain in a forest on the side of a lake that I enjoy parking next to. He still thinks that he is a puppy, though I try to make sure that he does not overdo it yet have some good fun all the same.
He sends hugs to give you all love and a few stray white hairs that he likes to share with people :-)

A quick update -
I have had cockney on the glucosamine and chondrointin tablets crushed up in his breakfast every morning for the last couple of weeks and the difference has been magnificant for the last week or so. It looks like it has taken him back a year or two as he certainly is looking younger for it.
The awkward part is crunching up tablets into powder every morning as I hope that no one comes over to the van and thinks that I am lining up other things !!!
I bought the tablets from a chemist rather than a vets and it was about sixty percent cheaper,so goes to prove how much some vets profitfrom us caring animal lovers !!
Though not to finish on a negative note - I am delighted in the change in cockneys health :-)

You don't have to crush them. Our very suspecting lurcher takes hers whole in pate or fish paste. Anything yummy she shouldn't have will do. Ardennes pate is good, as there's a few lumps in it.
