Have copied this over from ukHippy where I have asked the same question-
Bonjour mes amis ( hello my friends )
Having put my back out recently because of an old back wound I am looking at something natural to use as an anti inflammatory hit.
My back was quite well busted up from a fall of about thirty foot onto a road about twenty years ago and felt fine until about five years after when the two disks that had dropped in the accident started squashing the sciatic nerve. I had a couple of injections of cortisone back then and now around fifteen years later,I have overdone it a bit on a job and have the same trouble from the sciatic as I did back then.
The injection is still an option as it did wonders last time, but I would like to try to see if I can deal with it more naturally first.
The effects of turmeric and pepper are widely known for their anti inflammatory behaviours and I have just gone out and bought a couple of small herb size jars of both ingredients but would like to hear of other peoples experiences before diving into this experiment.
I would love to hear the thoughts of you lovely hippies especially those of you who know a bit about this. I am sure that this thread will be helpful to others too if the response is as effective as some folks say.
I look forward to hearing your words of wisdom soon.
Love and light to all
fly xx

I knew a girl who had a dog that was suffering horrendously because of some cancer or another, and as a last option before having to give the poor crittur a sleep injection she tried giving it Turmeric for a couple of weeks and apparently it got better and was running around like a young dog again.
Have heard of some great results from humans too.
I am going to start mixing a bit of it and black pepper into all my meals and see if it relieves the stress around my sciatic nerve which is a bit of a pain at the moment. I do get a bit of arthritic pain in my wrists too,so maybe they may improve.
I shall keep you all posted with any effects either positive or negative.

Have also ordered a large tub of capsules from amazon that will arrive tomorrow just before I cancel amazon prime. what a strange coincidence ;-)

Just had a one pan (frying pan jobbie) casserole, if you can call it that. Sausages, onion, toms, yellow pepper spiced with black pepper (lots), tumerick and ginger along with soy and Worcester sauce. I use a lot of tumerick and cummin in my cooking but can't say I've noticed any difference in health, I'm fubar anyway but it tastes good.
Also use a lot of white pepper in mash, on chips and especially on microwaved cheese wraps. Just love the flavour.

Turmeric root is not too bad to eat, if you don't mind yellow teeth that is. A local deli sells it and it's pretty cheap as well. I wouldn't eat a whole root but maybe just nibble a bit like finger tip sized now and then.
Hope your back gets better soon, sciatica is a bummer.

Thanks. I do not mind it too much as gives me a much needed kick up the proverbial to slow down. it can just be a pain (literally) when I forget and turn to the side or catch it in a bad position. The lumber belt is very good for helping with that. Apart from that,I am happy, positive and mostly very healthy and aware that there are many people far worse off than me,so it does not need moaning about.
Makes me think of the song by ralph mctell- streets of london
How can you tell me your lonely and for you that the sun dont shine-let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of london and I will show you something that will make you change your mind
