The biggest problem is, even if the harmful plastic is outlawed overnight, it will remain in the environment for hundreds of years!

True, but at least its a start. Let's stop making new shit first, then we can clean up the old shit that's hanging about.

I think caring for the enviroment has become alot more mainstream these days. Not that long ago, when my kids were young, all this info was available, but unless you were a hippy or enviromental activists,no one really did anything about it.We still have a long way to go.Just reminded me,I had posters from FOE and Greenpeace all over my house,so my kids deffo got the message!lol

Saw a programme which had this video in Indonesia making 'plastic bags' out of cassava which could dissolve to nothing nasty and were edible. Just don't get why in this day and age that we don't try and use straw or similar waste crops to do the same.

I stayed on a floating reed island on lake Titicaca in peru/Bolivia a few years back,I couldn't understand why the inhabitants though their plastic garbage in the lake for it to just Bob about.you don't need an education to realise it's an eyesore.

The trouble is absolutely everything you buy comes in plastic. Used to buy butter wrapped in greaseproof paper. Now it comes in a plastic tub. Can't buy grapes, strawberries, peaches or apricots etc without getting a plastic tub if you buy from a supermarket. Cakes, meat fish etc all the same story, even soup!
Pasta sauce used to come in a glass jar, the one I used today was in a plastic pot.
DIY stuff, screws and nails come in a plastic tub, what happened to the cardboard boxes of years gone by
Even wet wipes, only just found out about wet wipes.

What gets me at supermarkets is the number of peeps who buy a hand of bananas then FFS put them in a plastic bag. I've noticed more paper bags in a lot of the shops I use.

Don't forget tea bags as well, I know there was a lot in the press a few months back saying how most of them are made of plastic and not bio degradeable paper. I Don't know if any of the big tea companies have been shamed into going plastic free.
