www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/mar/19/uber-self-driving-car-kills-woman-arizona-tempe'' Self-driving Uber kills Arizona woman in first fatal crash involving pedestrian
An autonomous Uber car killed a woman in the street in Arizona, police said, in what appears to be the first reported fatal crash involving a self-driving vehicle and a pedestrian in the US.
Tempe police said the self-driving car was in autonomous mode at the time of the crash and that the vehicle hit a woman, who was walking outside of the crosswalk and later died at a hospital. There was a vehicle operator inside the car at the time of the crash.''
It'll be interesting to see if they try to sweep this one under the carpet to further the use of these vehicles. I for one do not want to see such vehicles on our roads but their day will come.

I don't want driverless cars. They will always be mixed with driven cars in my lifetime, and it's a recipe for disaster.

There are too many variables in life for these vehicles to be a success. They should be banned on the basis that they are testing them in public access places and that just isn't safe and never will be totally safe. How can machines and computers possibly take account of human behaviour?

Here in the UK, it's a legal requirement for the driver to be insured. What if there's no driver?

It's not the first death caused by driverless cars.. A Tesla already killed its "driver".... And it's news because it's novel... What counts is deaths caused per mile driven...
When the Tesla made a mistake and killed its occupant, Teslas, collectively, had done massive mileage and killed no-one... far more mileage per death than human drivers ever achieve....
Autonomous cars are coming, and while we might not like them, they will eventually serve humanity far better than the current system...
Except perhaps, for those who want to enjoy driving...
