Hi all, Well this morning I decided to clean the oven. Its a gas oven, and now it won't light?I've had good look inside, the pilot light is still clicking....I can smell gas but no flames appearing?I avoided cleaning the back bit of the oven where the gas etc is so I really don't know whats happened. It was working fine last night.Any help or tips?TIA I'd really appreciate it.

The pilot lighter will click but is it visibly sparking at the back by the burner?
Had to laugh at your thread title,i was imagining some catastrophic mess.

Probably got water in somewhere. If you can smell gas, light the burner with match and let the oven get warm to dry out.

Back when I had an oven, I never cleaned it!! They way I see it is, if an oven can reach a temperature to kill bacteria in food, it will kill bacteria on the surface of the oven...

It's worth getting it looked at by someone who knows so you don't get the big bang. Mine runs on calor and over time the burner had sooted up, become difficult to light. Mates lad crawled in and unscrewed the burner, cleaned it and it's worked perfect for the last few years.

Not worried about bacteria hon, more the clean factor. When I was younger,I always left my oven to clean until it started smoking!lol Then I'd clean it! These days,I do it fairly regularly, and learnt that by doing so, its not such a massive job.I'm abit like Nomadic too,I like to see whats cooking.

I would clean the glass door! Remember when ovens didn't have glass doors?

yes I do remember that!My bestie used to have an old wood lit oven in her place.Dried a few wet fag butts on top of it too!(Yeah well when you're desparate for a smoke, early hours of the morning...both drinking.......then you remember the corner shop where you work, has the fag butt tin outside the back door. You go and collect it....and the butts are wet with rain?lol Jeez some of the stuff I got up to when I was younger (Not that much younger than I am now...whoops!haha)
