No not the northern lot but Now that we have another to pay for just wondering how folks on here now view them in the modern world?? Do we still need them? Do we need to pay for them as much as we do considering all that they own? At the same time, do we still need the honours system considering how corrupt it really is. Be a twunt in parliament long enough and you get moved upstairs with a title and the ability to earn £300 for just popping in for a subsidised meal. On a less contentious note what name do you thing the new sprogg should have. (shame we can't run a sweepstake) My vote goes for Marion as in the 'Duke'.

To be honest, I don't care about them either way. They are over there doing their thing, and I am here doing mine. I do object to paying for them, but they also bring in tourism.

I do object to paying for them, but they also bring in tourism. Allegedly. There is no reason to believe this is true, although monarchists in particular, trot this out all the time. People visit other countries whose monarchies have been long dissolved, and actually pay to get into palaces which no longer belong to a handful of disgustingly rich parasites. Call the baby Tapeworm, cause it is going to grow up to steal nourishment from the rest of us, however cute it is at present.

Royalty these days, seems quite old fashioned.Once upon a time, long ago,the majority of people respected royalty.I don't think thats true these days.I don't think most people care about them tbh.I don't. Its like watching some kind of freak show these days.

I think there should only be an immediate royal family like they have in Japan. What about an elected royal family? A new one every five years.

Have you noticed there was a documentary and interview with the queen recently..to soften the massive funeral bill we will pay I thought. Then a program about Camilla softening us up for a queen Camilla methinks. If the royal family cared at all they skip charles and let William have the job.Saving all the coronation expense for an oap thats going to peg it soon anyhow...costing even more money. How many "royals"are on the civil list anyhow? Not even true royals.Isnt the real monarch a guy living in Australia re bloodlines?

I grew up in a little village that bordered Windsor great park. So the park was my childhood playground, I have spent many many thousands of hours playing in there, exploring, fishing, climbing, watching events. Very safe and well looked after park that is free to use for everyone in the country, but even locals never used it. So I a great full to the royals for one of the nicest most awesome playgrounds anyone could have grown up with access to.
Met quite a few of the old guard royals, in those days most of them had houses backing onto the park., I left in the late 80s, so the newer generation I don’t know at all.
I can take em or leave em to be honest, they live life’s so far removed from my experience of life they may as well be space aliens. They are part of what makes Britain Britain, it is like asking if Elizabeth tower (aka Big Ben.) is needed, no it fucking isn’t in any way shape or form, but that doesn’t mean we should knock it down to save a few pennies.

When hospitals are struggling £39 million is not a shed load of money in the big picture but it could make a difference. The Rockerfeller sales recently made over £500 million and the Royal Family's collection exceeds that one big time. The Duchy raises a huge amount too and the family owns huge estates so IMHO they should be self funding.
On one positive side, talking of money, if we didn't have them we'd be having the likes of Thatcher or Blairs ugly smarmy mugs on our brass and that would never do.

If they can't self fund with the assets they have they should be made to economise like normal folk,if you can't afford something, you don't have it! If they can't pay for the upkeep on their big ol houses they need to move somewhere cheaper like we do....I hear Rotherham has some affordable housing, and if they moved to Salford they could probably all find empty houses in the same street so the fuckers could all still live together.Just a thought.....

Despite the widespread condemnation of them I expect if a referendum were held on whether the monarchy should be abolished there'd be a large majority vote to keep them. Just like the huge number of grindingly dirt poor white southern rednecks in the US who voted for Trump believing he'll look after them. People are mostly two-faced hypocrites.
If the monarchy was disolved the government would just spend vast amounts on an official Presidential presence like the French and US and Russia does..its all more about symbolism and projection of history and power than the personalites.
Even if the royals were entirely self financing as they really should be (it would be better for their image) people would hate them for their privilege and if they didnt exist at all people would hate what was in their place.
Theyre an anachronism that will in time fade out like they have in Italy and Greece.
Considering the billions the government doles out in corporate subsidies to corporations that dont need support and to government consultants and sweeteners for contractors and that money is going to prop up the wealthy lifestyles of 10's of thousands of parasitical hangers on I dont know why people get so fixated about this one family.
There are thousands of rich families being pretty well financed by the government directly or indirectly in one way or another just as happens in France or the US or Russia but no one says a thing.
