Called in to Mcdonalds today, across the road from Pontefract racecourse. While I was in the queue I noticed a few empty cooking oil containers in the top of their bin. Hmm thought I, would be easy to clean them to reuse for water. Saw a young guy walking towards the bins so thought I'd ask if I was OK to take a couple. Lad says"I'll have to ask my manager and off he fucks, minute later he comes back, "sorry, manager says no!" Don't get why these people would rather pay a substantial amount of money to put things in landfill, instead of letting them be repurposed. Could understand if we were talking about toxic or poison containers, but not food grade ones. Thoughts please? ☺

Pinch em and they will be happy, but if you ask permission they then have a legal liability. Just safer not to.
Just part of the stupid world we are living in.

Don't get me started! Plastic bag tax! Pull the other one. Before Christmas, and after, I got £30 worth of brand new carrier bags from the poundshop bin. It was over a few days. Then there's the food....
Also, if you want free water carriers, look out a food factory, check out their bins.

I'm not particularly short of water storage, but I'm an eternal womble! Can't abide seeing anything going to waste that someone could use. Thought about just taking them but there are cameras pointi g at the bins... the bins are under surveillance for fucks sake!....

Can you imagine that call? 'Emergency what service do you require?" "Police please" "What is the nature of your call?" "Somebody has been stealing rubbish out of my bin" "Sir I don't think that's a Police matter" Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepp

Also, if you want free water carriers, look out a food factory, check out their bins. We use lots of stuff in containers that you would definitely not want to use for water when they were empty. We also use lots of stuff that would be quite safe to just rinse the container out and use for water when empty. Problem is apart from a label they are the same. A lot of labels get removed by unscrupulous people in the industry as the ones with toxic stuff in them cost more to dispose of. Be careful what you pick up, dont assume because its a food factory that they are food safe.

I get ones that had wine in them. They often have a glass or so left, even the one that had cognac in it!

Well, I'm sat here bored, so I just whacked an email off to Mcdonalds customer services. Outlined the earlier issue and asked for comments re the official stance regarding plastic waste and the recycling thereof... not holding my breath but will keep you posted... passed 20 minutes if nothing else 😇😀

Got a response from Mcdonalds customer services. First they wanted to know which restaurant I had used and the date and time of my visit. Then I got another email from them, telling me all about their use of bio fuel in all their delivery vehicles. Skipped the original issue nicely, but at least I got a response, and positive feedback regarding their use of all their waste cooking oils... Still didn't get my hands on the empty drums tho! 😈😄

You need to spell out to them the container was empty, and clearly in with the rest of the rubbish.
