We all know why I set up this forum. I wanted set out a few facts, so we are clear from the start this is a totally free forum It's using a free service, and is supported by ads. I have no control over the ads and don't get any commission from them.
Therefore I won't be pestering for donationsThere isn't a wide variety of features. We don't have direct photo uploading or hosting. To post images you need to use an online host. We do however have the one feature that matters. Members. More importantly, members that post! At the end of the first week (25 March 2018). 103 visitors in the last day. How many of those registered? Do we have any uniquely new members yet?
If we have that many visitors per day, maybe we need to work out why they arent registering. Do we need to show them more content?

Some of the visitors are Google bots, and bots from other services. They check all kinds of websites so it's proof that we have shown up there. This happens naturally when there's activity.
There are also visits from other kinds of bots, not all good. We've already banned some IPs of companies that offer 'Internet marketing' ie spam. For the short term, it's why membership is restricted to Admin approval.
At a guess, I would say at least half of the visitors aren't human.

Discounting half then, fifty people visited today and none of them signed up. This surely means that we need to be doing more to encourage registration.

I think it's about quality, not quantity.
After all, we have nearly 60 members but not all of them are online all the time.

Guests that dont register doesnt necessarily mean theyre interested in joining.Most probably a lot are opportunist spammers looking for a target.Since this board is only one of many on proboard its inevitable we will be a target of interest to spammers and scammers.
I think those who are genuinely interested in the forum will register.
The forum doesnt have to justify its presence by acquiring members rapidly nor has it to cover costs so a trickle of genuine members is better than a flood of disinterested ones.
Id rather see existing members being more active.Several from the other place have registered and not posted or been back.
Thats not unique to here, thousands on the other site do the same.

Dont get me wrong, im not suggesting we need floods of members. What i was getting at is are we showing guests enough of what we offer in the full forum? The view they have is very limited. Perhaps as previously suggested even a couple of screenshots of the full forum and a couple of thread excerpts in the guest accessible bit may help?
Id agree with both of you though, and again as stated previously no point in having thousands of members if only half a dozen post.

I think what you suggested before of having excerpts of threads as tasters in the public chat section might help attract more genuine folks..??

As the other place has cut off access to guests, I am wondering if a few more boards should be open to see, but not for guest posting.
I am thinking photography. Anybody else we can think of?

We have a few more members this week, but otherwise activity is the same. Mid week (not shown) we had a spike in visitors, 131 in one 24 hour period. It was then I joined NC in banning the content scrapers and known spammers.
It then dropped back but has gone up again. I have noticed a few domestic IPs cropping up so hope they become members.
