Tell me this isn’t true! Just heard on Have I got News For You (my main source of news...) that McVities might close their factory in Glasgow because Not Enough People Are Eating Biscuits! How can this be?

I believe they're opening a new place in Pontefract. Apparently there's a big biscuit munching fucking bear there so its viable....😉🐻👍

Folk have maybe been making their own during lockdowns? We made some, and they were delicious! But went within a couple of days, a big plateful. Surprising easy to make, but don't leave 'em in too long, like what I did on one occasion...

Last time I bought a packet of biscuits they tasted of palm oil and sugar. They were horrible. I make my own.

I don't have an oven. Do drop scones count as biscuits?

I can only apologise. I have always been a constant biscuit eater, ever since childhood. I have also always been one of those annoying people who ate a lot of crap and didn't put on too much weight. Alas, my unhealthiness caught up with me, I put on four stone and developed gallstones as well. So I put the biscuits down towards the end of last year and haven't had one since. I think it is possible that the biscuit crisis is, therefore, entirely my fault and I can only apologise. I would offer to pick them up again but gallstones are bloody painful and I don't want them flaring up again

Last time I bought a packet of biscuits they tasted of palm oil and sugar. They were horrible. I make my own. Glad someone else feels the same. There was a time not very long ago i could easily eat my way through an entire pack of McVities chocolate digestives, chocolate hobnobs or Rich Tea in one sitting, they were so delicious. Now I cant stand any of them, the chocolate biscuits smell like shit and all their biscuits are vile greasy nasty tasting things. Whats more within an hour of eating one i get gut ache for days and i know this is down to palm oil in them because i cant eat anything with palm oil in because of chronic or acute gut ache reaction. This applies to a lot of things i loved to eat whether popular brand or stores own fare, even bread, but I can no longer eat because nearly everything contains palm oil so back to making own biscuits cakes pies bread etc. The last packs of McVities i bought on offer a few years back i gave away. I wouldnt buy another. As for the factory closing,I feel for the loyal workers who have kept it going. Im not surprised its closing though since its just another victim of parasitic global corporates who suck up leading popular brands, asset strip the companies and its recipes, patents and trademarks and trash the workforce. The fact its a British corporate owned by a Turkish parent company en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pladis makes no odds, theyre all predatory. Sadly because of trading difficulties during Covid many good independents are getting gobbled up dirt cheap by greedy opportunist hedge funds and corporate giants. There was a time id have been totally incensed but now I could care less what happens to McVities biscuits, best straight in the trash bin for me. I will ensure i dont buy any other products belonging to the parent company Pladis thats trashed McVities though. Just as I stopped buying anything owned by Kraft and Mondelez Nestlé. Fuck all of these corporate vultures. I read every label of everything, not just ingredients but who owns the companies or look them up on internet. Rather pay a bit more and buy traditionally made products with natural ingredients made by genuine family owned firms than support mercenary multinationals vultures.
