Hi y'all..
I'm fee and single, and currently live in Wales I am 53 and getting younger each and every day LOL( I wish)
So I joined today because I have been taking driving lessons on and off ( thanks corona!) for the last 12 months because of the long trek to work and now thinking that when I pass my test, eventually I would like to buy a van to live off grid for economy reasons and the freedom this lifestyle brings. I currently rent accommodation and its a dead end, but I can't afford to buy.
Anyhoo, I have questions and concerns that obviously need to be addressed first. This kind of life, even though it seems ideal, doesn't come without its challenges. And at my age and being single with grown children and a full time job just seems to go against standard norms. So there's that to overcome too. see, I love the idea of the hippie lifestyle, but lack the experience.
Hopefully you good people here can shed some light on my concerns and ideals, so I can make sound decisions and prepare for the future.
thanks

Welcome to the forum! When I learnt to drive, I went straight from an escort driving school car to a long wheelbase transit (drove commercially). Scary as hell, but you will be surprised how quick you get used to it! Gradually you will find how little you can live on, or for once have money left over at the end of the month. Good luck and ask away, that's what we are here for!

Wishing you a warm welcome to Ukhippies moondancer. You have certainly come to the right place as there are a fair few of us on here who are living the nomad dream. As our lovely creator Vanwoman (vw or vannie to some) said, ask away any questions that you may have and we will do our best to answer them as honestly as we can. Most questions you have on vanlife should be easily answered here. I have been on the road with a mix of vehicles and yurts for about thirty years, but have spent twenty of them over on the mainland so am not up to date with uk van life, but will offer any help that I can. Where are you in Welsh Wales at the moment ? I am originally a pembroke lad though have been living in France for a lot of years, but due to Brekshit I may well possible get deported back to the uk if the plod stop me so am keeping my van clean and shiney and sticking to the small roads so not to be seen too much !! Nice to have you join our team of hippy types, nomads, tree huggers, wood workers, plant whisperers and hedge hoppers ( not to mention the yogurt weavers and other starnge people ). We look forward to getting to know you and hope to see more of you on these pages. Love and light fly xxxx
edit : Just seen the post from marsh so had best add musicians and boat dwellers to the list :-)

Hi thanks for the warm welcome everyone😁
I’m in Angelsey/ Bangor at the moment. It’s quiet and pleasant area. But none of my family are here so it gets lonely. I’m here because I work here, but want to move somewhere warmer and not as rainy.
France sounds great, I’m learning french at the moment, just for fun
Looking forward to getting to know you all and searching for answers to some questions
Blessings😁

A beautiful part of Wales indeed , but yes definately prone to a bit of the wet stuff. Its good that you are learning a language as if you do travel through that country it will make your experience much more fun and help you get by easier.
Nice to see you are having a look around the site and I hope that you are finding any of the info that you find helpful.
Do remember that what you read is an average of how it is for people and not necessarily how it will be for you. You can get an idea from other people's experiences but your experience will be unique. It is a good guideline however reading through the responses as both Positive and negative views get looked at and debated which can give a more complete picture of the whole scene.
Good luck with your search and dont be shy in asking questions.
Gotta get ready to go and do some work now, so laters xx
