I used to use processed peas that I bought in big boxes from the local shop so that I could be a git with my pea shooter :-) My uncle told me a great way to spice up a train journey (trains in old days had windows that opened ) was a decent catapult and a bag of marbles . I never followed this tip , due to getting a severe caning from the head master after my uncles notion stinging fellow pupils behind the knees wirh a bunch of nettles was a chuckle . I was 6 . The cats tip was 14 , so prolly borstal . Oh the japes of yester year

I often stand in amazement that many of us lads and the tom boy girls made it to adulthood !!
One of my mums favourite stories is when she used to climb up onto the rail above the traintracks on one of the bridges when she was younger in manchester and stand there screaming whilst the steam train passed underneath covering her in vapour. No fear is probably what kept most of us from killing ourselves,or at least the lucky ones amongst us !!

I write lettures to a friend because we got tired of digital communications and wanted a bit of civility restored. I still write with cartridge pen with Italic nib..I do not like these new fangled biro things.
People have written symbols for thousands of years, suddenly they cant. I recommend a regular dose of calligraphy, purchase a pen set ( yes they do exist and yes you can,you can even buy ink 😱 imagine that!) and practice the art of proper writing with yer actual hand. There is no art in keyboard comms, its done for you,no thought or skill required.
Unless you have a physical impairment like the honorable reverend afore mentioned then there is no excuse for maintaining the skill of writing with a pen or pencil and not a machine.
You can install apps to 'handwrite' on your space age technology if you so wish....and is growing in popularity too, just as reading a real book (remember them?) as opposed to an e book is.
Resist the rise of the machines. Skynet is coming.

I write about three letters a year in longhand now. (The O/H tells me what to write, she can't be bothered to write). Our friends usually write around Xmas, we reply sometime in early Spring. They reply before Midsummer, and we write again sometime after. We get another in early Autumn, and reply about Halloween, then wait for Xmas again. It's a busy old year.

I find it ironic we have spent almost a hundred years trying to teach the more illiterate of people to read and write and now the skills are irrelevant,we must all be computer literate instead. 😕 Such a huge relief we are fully conversant in world of warcraft and grand theft auto

Yes, and it has happened so quickly. Electronic data cannot last for long before it has to take another recording format, and the previous formats soon become defunct.

Imagine having to use a pen or pencil and paper... Horrific, it doesnt bear thinking about. I asked a few days ago a young assistant in a shop, whether they had blotting paper.
It was obviously some fiendish alien technology.

Totally agree with you, I have a lovely pen, I buy ink for it, I like to imagine myself as a Victorian lady sitting accepting invites, but I know if I was alive them days I would be bare foot selling matches on a street corner lol.
