It depends on the design of mask you have and whether its single use disposable or washable type or replaceable filter. Surgical masks wont protect you at all, theyre not meant to protect the user, theyre to stop the user coughing sneezing or breathing directly on a patient. You may as well wear a chocolate gnome. From Aljazeera website
Bears out the trend, 2-3% die, but 86% ending up in hospital doesn't look good which seems odd compared to Italys 1100 infected and 105 seriously ill.

this is going to have a knock on effect when these people with this virus are put in hospital where do you put all the other people who have to go into hospital there are only so many beds and if its comes big time to the uk we will not build a 1000 bed hospital in 10 days

China had no choice to build hospitals due to number infected and it had 530k hospital beds in Wuhan province.

Australias now got person to person transmission and reports of 'panic buying' shops being emptied and the US news says it's the same here as well
ussanews.com/News1/2020/02/27/coronavirus-panic-some-store-shelves-empty-in-uk-australia-czech-republic-south-korea/
Old news, we haven't had hand gel on shelves for many days. I've made my own but I'm now thinking that rather than faff about with aloe vera I'll source a spray bottle and just fill it with surgical spirit as the mix is watery compared to bought gel, maybe experimant with mixing with liquid soap which is all that I ever use nowadays and it's supposed to be antibacterial too.
New cases are dropping in China bot rocketing in S. Korea, Iran and Italy.
UK: Coronavirus outbreak could force UK to shut down entire cities, health secretary admits. He also said a research paper suggesting half a million people in the UK could die in the event of a flu pandemic was a “reasonable worst-case scenario.”

Theres only so much food people can hoard and stock levels will return to normal unless movement restrictions make that difficult. I think the government will just use the issue as a reason to scrap health and safety and work time laws, class size limits, impose emergency police powers etc and conveniently forget to restore things to normal when its all finished. I wouldnt trust this government with a box of matches, especially not with Fuhrer Cummings directing everything in the back office.

I wouldn't trust any government as they're all in it for power and money and not the people. The further up the tree the monkey climbs the more you see his arse.

Currently watching Boris and two docs on tv. They appear to make sense on their plans and answers appear good but I still think that it's being played down but what has come out is they are saying that up to a 5th of the UK workforce could be off sick at the peak (2-3 mths for the peak to pass) of the outbreak which will hit up to 80% max of the population.
Current UK polulation is about 68,000,000. UK workforce is about 29,000,000. If 1% die that's 500,000 compared to 17,000 flu deaths in 2018.
Worst-case scenario there's a shitload of grief ahead for the whole world.
