Compo. You must have agreed to those T&Cs to post them on this forum, whether you read them or not. I didn't write them, and I don't sell anybody's details, personally. Neither do I personally give details away. So please don't say that I do. I didnt say that i hadn't. I didn't read them all but who ever does? However, i am intelligent enough and have spent enough time on the internet both as a user and webmaster to know without even reading them that they will be sharing your data. If i had a problem with this then i wouldnt be posting here. This however is not the issue, you stated that you arent selling anything. By this "you" generally would refer to the forum and its owner/administrator and not you personally. The assertion that nothing needs to be sold as it is being given away under the t&c's of this boards usage is correct. Also, as the person who chose this host you must have agreed to data from all potential users being given away when you read and signed up to the t&c's to set the board up or are you saying you didnt read them either?

Am I missing something ? They sell your data? What data ? My location comes up as Fulham , my name is Om , and my date of birth is 2 days out .If anyone can gain anything from that , good luck to them , as they are all wrong . I am way more concerned about greenfly and what is for dinner than FB, google or any one else making 0.5p out of my details .

To be fair, if you put your real details in a random site that asks for it, you really are ill advised. It's that simple, in relation to what information you GIVE no what's stolen. Deleting an account only removes that information. Anything else stays on the forum. Even IP addresses stay in the forum logs.

I think it was better in the old days when all you had to worry about was maggots in the flour and the squire getting a toothache and going off on one. Paranoia about the internet seems a very first world problem . I had best fun ever a couple of nights ago on FB messenger ,when an old friend got hacked and was telling me I had won £150000. Apologies to any of my FB friends if I got hacked because of it . Sorry , no you have won nothing ps , I will never ask for your bank details or password . Honest !

I know very little about computers or the interweb thing, but I always just assume that if i write anything on here or anywhere else it is available to the whole world. Like Om says I don't think myself to be important or interesting enough for anyone to be even slightly interested in anything I say or do.I don't have enough money or assets to appeal to any corporate organizations, and if anyone wants to hack into my bank account, I hope they pay off my overdraught while they're in there! I don't have allegiance to any particular group or organizations, subversive or otherwise. Anyone who has accounts with facebook, twitter, snapthing, or any other of these "look at me!" sites is in my opinion very gullible if they think they aren't being abused by someone somewhere. If you have anything you don't want people to know about, don't put it on the internet! I'm sure my posts are being read, but if I wasn't a member here I wouldn't have this circle of what I now class as friends, so, Swings & Roundabouts I reckon.....

This section of the forum (General Chat) is public, as is Hello. The rest of the forum is members only. Therefore anything you write here can be read by the public. The rest of the forum can only be read by members, including profile details. Anything only readable by members is safe from the general public. That's not to say the forum provider won't pass on the information should one company be bought by another. That's how I understand the section of the T&Cs regarding transfer of personal information. It has been spelled out, to me, when the direct question has been asked, that proboards does not sell personal information.

They may not sell it,they share it with other parts of their operation and with 3rd parties and partner sites who 'may' sell it.
Fakebook does the same and since it owns messenger and instagram and whatsapp it has a large free database to access.
Its one of those things you have to accept for the privilege of using the sites.
Dont use personally identifiable information on the internet is the simple answer. Dont post personal details privately or publicly or photos identifying you or your home or family or friends if you expect privacy to be maintained. If you do it wont take five minutes computer work to piece together a profile of 'You' either for use either by the authorities or for nefarious purposes (ID Fraud etc).
The new European data peotection laws give you far more protection amd make the use of your data without your express permission a criminal offence. It doesnt cover data you give permission to be moved and shared to servers outside the EU ie to US servers where most of the social media sites are located. Ive never used my real name anywhere on the internet nor posted photos of me,friends or former family nor use real personal details so theres little that can be gained other than from annoying targeted advertising based on my activies on line but for that there's adblocker.
Sooner or later i will more or less leave the internet apart from buying online and research because I find the experience of social media tedious and often unnecessarily annoying, people fighting and squabling for no good reason is the norm. The spreading of doom gloom despondency and hate because they themselves are feeble minded jealous and boring people whos lives arent going well so they choose to interfere in the lives of others to make them equally miserable is just pointless and spoils it for everyone.
The internet is a fabulous tool for knowledge and good but on the whole swamped by mediocrity and narcissistic garbage.
Who wants/needs that? I dont, Im much happier when im not online.
Little wonder many folks are leaving social media and doing their own thing in the real world.
Corporate social media has killed the fun,its just about information and money and ive never been enthused by money.
I dont need social media in any meaningful way.Life goes on with or without it.
