Am I the only person that thinks they should not use salt on roads ? Once its on there it doesn't magicly disapear, it goes into the ground and local water courses causing terrible damage . It also gives people a false sense of security. 70 percent of the salt applied to roads stays within the region’s watershed. They dont use salt where there is a lot of snow , snow ploughs and the right tyres work just fine . Also it is very harmful to animals that lick their feet , ie dogs and cats . What will happen when we rin out of rock salt ,? Will it be before we run out of fuel ? Just another aspect of how selfish humans are with the planet .

Germany use urea instead of salt, still rots the bodywork but kinder on the environment. One thing about salt it doesn't work below a certain temperature so it's a waste of time using it and it wouldn't have worked this last few days. Mind you, local council rarely spread by me they mainly do the towns.

You see them gritting here all the time on dry roads and it blows off as soon as a car runs over it .

I never thought of the environment. Now you mention it, it's obvious. I'm fully aware of the damage it does to vehicles!!

Non of the lanes here get gritted, only the A roads.Lanes have been iced up like cresta run. I hate when they grit the roads, its pretty ineffective in most cases and ruinois to cars and environment and covers the windscreen in gop in seconds. Should do what Germany does and make everyone use winter tyres, half the numpties are driving in snow on ultra low profile summer tyres...you may as well have slicks on.

One of the twatiest parking jobs I have seen in my life was a few days ago in the Lidl car park , and it was a Range Rover with ultra low profiles !

The words 'low' and 'range rover' should never be in the same sentence...

The weakest link with all vehicles is the one behind the wheel driving it.
My neighbour smashed his car up on a day temperatures didnt get above freezing.. "i lost it on a bend and hit the barrier i was only doing 55"
