Scary stuff, I never cut up treated fence posts etc to use in our burner, just stick to proper logs from trees. Out of interest ( I don’t use them for burning ) does anyone know if some of the pallet wood is treated with this stuff ?

Some pallets are nasty I put up a link on the old site which had the codes but cannot find it now A very quick google bought up this www.instructables.com/id/How-to-determine-if-a-wood-pallet-is-safe-for-use/I would imagine some pallets could be treated with worse , and there is always the danger of chemical have been spilled on them in there working life. I was cutting up some packing cases for stone from India last week and it smelt of off garlic , I hope it was the wood !

Thanks for that, was wondering as some peps use them for kindling, and was thinking about possible chemical contaminants that could be being used in van/ bus builds

Is this relatively safe outdoors? My neighbour has a fire pit he sits round most nights.

No , that's the thing , arsenic is not destroyed by burning , The fumes and ash are highly toxic . I am now shitting it as smell of garlic like the wood I just cut can mean arsenic treated . Painted wood thats old could have lead paint , and lead can have arsenic in it too . Double danger !

Arsenic has little to no taste or smell....also arsenic is naturally present in chicken rice fish beer wine etc. Dump the wood and ash with care and relax.

Yes, when the truck caught fire last May bank holiday, the fire brigade wore breathing apparatus! The other day when they came a couple of days ago they gave us disposable masks.

When wiring in vehicles burns the residue is highly corrosive acidic compound and will eat into your flesh and in some cases has meant amputation to stop its progress, its highly dangerous. Not to mention gas pressurised units for collision energy absorption and air bags. All the electronics contain toxic heavy metals which boil off as toxic vapors as do most of the adhesives and sealers. All the emergency services know this.
Vehicle on fire, leave the area, dont stand in the fumes filming the drama like sime eejits do.
