Because theyre Christmas celebratory treats. Easter eggs or Turkeys arent eaten all year either usually Mince pies been in the shops since September cuz ive been buying and eating them I take it youre no fan of mincemeat or xmas pudding. Personally im no fan of Turkey i dont understand why folks eat them, at least not commercial ones theyre not nice.Been a few years since i kept them. I dont do Christmas either,at least not in the preprogrammed way we're expected as Consumermas. The Christmas you want you should have; The Christmas you get you deserve. Roll on Yule π

Xmas pud and mince pies are edible but I don't think anyone finds them all that delicious. People just pretend to like them. I can buy sliced cooked turkey all the year round from my local supermarket and I would consider it palatable but I am philosophically uncomfortable as a freerangertaian.

If they werent delicious folk wouldnt buy them.Mince pies sell out rapidly every week especially the flakey pastry and lattice ones on the in-store bakery section from September onwards.
A lot of factory made mince pies and puddings are gross just as most factory made cakes are in my opinion. Im not much of a fan of many English cakes though,I much prefer Italian (im biased) and some French and Greek, also Scandinavian. English cakes are too heavy and stodgy I find.I make an exception for lardy cake.
To be fair not many people seem to like fruit in cakes of any sort, mince pies and puddings are very fruity and rich..like marmite you either love or hate them.
Supermarket sliced rubber Turkey is gross...is it even real meat?
Im definitely freerangertarian and DIY home cooking fan but its nice to have some instore baked flakey mince pies to warm up when im feeling too crup to cook.

Roll on Yule π That twunt Scholfield is fronting a programme How to spend it well at Christmas FFS, commonsense does not apply nowadays.
The true meaning is lost and the losers are just being programmed into the 'buy' mentality by businesses. Most people will usually get the Christmas they deserve by buying it, overeating, getting well bladdered and then whining like a bus load of whining things when they're skint and in debt after.
My thoughts will be with the ones on the streets who sit there whilst everyone else passes them by caught up in the need to buy big and are full of that wierd jovial goodwill to others that disappears on Boxing Day when the sales start again.
Bah humbug.

Yes i dont know wtf is wrong with these media idiots lately.Ive seen no end of 'how to enjoy ...' themes how to enjoy christmas how to enjoy a meal out, how to enjoy a winter evening in with a good book....They must think we're all incapable of knowing how to .. Everything so formulaic and programmed....dear media..fuck off. Pretty tragic that 320,000 people are homeless 13000 of them ex services all living in poverty and nearly all as a result of deliberate pointless austerityTory policy. Ive been stood in the checkout regularly for a few weeks and I dont think any one in front of me has spent under 150 quid, most walk straight past the food donations cages and homeless get moved on. A stinking rich county dripping wealth and no one gives a fuck.

I'm all for sexual equality and have no problem with that as long as she lets me sit on her lap and talks dirty to me

Why's it madness? Santa is a made up character like Dr. Who.

True, but Father Christmas should be male. No?

I'd argue that, too, Vannie on the grounds that firstly, it's Santa that they are talking about, not Father Xmas.
(I live a few miles away from this place and no residents have complained at all,it's made up "political correctness gone mad" by the fake newspaper known as the daily mail.) Secondly, an actor can p!ay male or female roles, that's what make up is for. Whether Santa, or Father Xmas, it is just a role and underneath the fat suit, white wig and beard, no one can tell the gender of the actor.
Thirdly, just because I'm feeling argumentative, I have a couple of friends, married to each other, who have a son who calls one of them Mum and the other one Dad. Both ladies are happy with how their child refers to them. Just sayin' . . .
This time ish last year, I travelled up to Aberdeen to watch a very small theatre group playing "Allo, All" in the Arts Centre. Good friends of mine. Both of the couple played several parts each, of both genders. I lost track of who p!ayed whom, and when, they were so good. Brenda, playing Herr Gruber had me convinced that she was the bloke in question.
