Homeless people technically have priority. Unfortunately that just means you get something, not exactly what you want.

I feel sorry for her, a winter in an unheated van is not something I'd fancy doing and it's not a nice way to live if you haven't chosen it. She'd probably be happier in a nice, comfy, cosy van with a burner and plenty of hot water but it doesn't sound as if she's got a van like that.

We've never had heating. Ever. A tiny space like her van should be easy to get warm. We lived in an uninsulated luton, through some cold winters, with ice on the inside of the van. I've definitely got used to it.

You must be like Mrs Everwarm or something lol x

We couldn't afford to put the heating on in the house, for at least two years before we sold up. That was good training.

Homeless people technically have priority. Unfortunately that just means you get something, not exactly what you want. And theyre only obliged under their duty of care to provide you with temporary shelter until you can find your own.Id rather live in a van than BnB or homeless shelters.Ive had the 'pleasure' of visiting those to attend unwell or injured folks.

Too right NomadCris, same here. I think the previously posted van dweller wasn't wasn't suited to it.

Its not difficult to make a van insulated and warm, its probably easier than trying to keep a flat or house room warm with no money. Like valdez said i think shes just pushing it as an awful way to live hoping someone will take pity and give her a place.
How and where you live may be governed by your circumstances but you dont have to live in cold miserable squalor. Its up to you to make it as warm and comfortable and make the best of it. Old people are living alone in poverty in unheated flats and houses, people are living im doorways and skips and no one helps them, why is she so special?

I got my council flat back in 1991, if I tried now they would laugh in my face and tell me to rent privately which probably would mean a bed sit.......again!! talk about back to square one.

But she's a 59 year old grandmother!!
"Without a job, you can't have a house. Without a house, they won't give you a job. I'm hoping somebody out there will give me a job," she says.
Really? Who told her that? When was the last time a boss came round to check you live where you say you live? True, you can't get a job without an address, but it doesn't have to be where you live...

A couple of people i know live in vans and work, one works at Tesco, the other ina boatyard. If you register with homeless org or shelter youre usually allowed touse the address as postal address. Theres always obstackes but theres always ways around official requirements. Use some imagination instead of bleating to a journalist about how awful you life is.

you need an address, it can be a mates house, or a drop in centre, dosent have to be where you live.
