Personally I am in favour of microchipping cats. We've had a couple of strays turn up at ours, one turned out to be lost and was reunited, the other was rehomed, but the various Cats Protection places local to us were all full and they're almost all unchipped and unneutured that have been wandering and no-one's been able to find the owner again. That said, I don't know how they'll enforce it - if they find one that isn't chipped they won't know who it belonged to anyway? Lol.

I expect a lot of cats will get kicked out on the street too as people wont or cant pay the chipping cost. Pet ownership is just a money go round for the pharma owned veterinary industry who are the only ones permitted to chip animals,very little of this is to do with animal welfare concerns or this faux concern for owners lost pets.
If they genuinely cared they'd be doing it free or huge discount. The millions or feral and farm cats of course are exempt as theres no one to be fleeced for the chipping charge.This measure will be worth a few hundred million pounds to the pharmaceutical owned uk veterinary industry and associated technology suppliers.
Funny how they can enact measures like this virtually overnight but the same government department minister can do nothing whatsoever to stop billions of tons of shit being dumped by water companies into the rivers and the sea harming and killing wildlife and destroying habitat.
Funny too how they cant (won't) trace where all the lost covid fund billions disappeared to and to whombut they can make sure they know where your cat is.
I agree chipping of roaming pets is generally a good idea and most responsible owners would do so but this is just typical populist Tory gaslighting and bullshittery.
