for many I imagine the short day light hours are a struggle. What are the redeeming features about winter for you. What do you enjoy ? What makes you feel everything is ok with the world during those cold, damp and harsh winters days and nights.
It sure makes me thankful when I put a quilt over me at night that I am secure and warm I like that. Sometimes the land can look quite beautiful if you get some mist and fog, that is nice. I quite like getting cosy even though it feel like you are rather forced to have to.
I do try and get out even though it can feel a bit more of a struggle to do so. It is quite easy to sit indoors and not venture out. If it is sunny I really try and make the most of that short amount of light when it is there.
What helps you through the winter, or maybe you love it ?
I relax more in the winter and do things like reading, i also cook better meals like stews and shepherds pie etc so i think i probably eat better. I also like cosy evenings under a fleecy blanket watching a good film.
Don’t like the wet cold, but dry crisp cold is lovely Having a bonfire while working in the woods Sitting in front of woodburner Hot mugs of tea, coffee, hot chocolate Stew and dumplings Warm bed, hot water bottle, hearing the rain pitter pattering on the window
Still bloody glad when winters over with though
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society
Hibernate, only good thing about winter is heavy snow and ice and crisp cold sunny days.Id be quite happy with winter if it snowed from October to March and the ground was rock hard but sadly winter usually means endless swamp conditions mud, damp, rain etc so that mank i shut out, keep warm.Luckily I dont get bored easily and have plenty to occupy my mind in my little cell while waiting for spring.
I work through the winter months and it gets harder every year so last year I just said sod it and packed up. My Mums flat is my refuge but the boredom and feeling of being trapped can be overwhelming. The internet helps and so does my free oyster card.
Go on Plenty of Fish and..... well, you get the picture
As a market trader things slow down through the winter so i spend a lot more time at home. Last winter at one point i did not go out of the house for a week because of the snow! I cook a lot more, spend time play my keyboards, playstation and thank god for the internet. i try to prepare for the winter by putting money away through the summer months, chopping wood, making wine, pickles etc and then hibernate!
moving to my winter park up next week, plenty of wood cut enough to see through to yule plus a couple of deadfalls ready to cut up,books to read, serviced the genny, solar cleaned so bring it on, i seldom wear a coat but do not suffer colds etc. only bit of winter i really hate is the damp miserable days. my burner has an oven so heat baking and large urn on the hot plate plus room for a pan keeps me cosy well fed and warm watered
