I really want to reply, but everything I think of just looks like sour grapes.

Correction, its not dying its being killed off.Its got more posts lately than it had when we were all there full time.It could be found a new owner or the running of it passed to someone else but hes chosen to close it down sothat no one benefits from all his hard work and investment in time and money....to a point i cant blame him,at least he can get on with his life without having a forum to manage and fund and wont have the regrets of losing control of his work or see its ethos changed for commercial gain.
However, that said,im not going to be jumping all over the UKH corpse in celebration, far from it.
I think its tragic that weve lost yet another British Hippy /Traveller/Alternative living forum. There are a few across the pond but wont make up for the loss this side.
Whatever the ultimate fate of forums in general or even I suppose facebook, for the moment theyre a popular medium for chatter, information exchange and a spark for igniting meetings and friendships. I can think of one recent couple who may not be together but for UKH and hence Dovedale And, some forums are still growing rapidly despite the threat posed by facebook.. One such is Wildcamping.
Its not the medium thats old hat its the management style of those that struggle to retain bums on seats and an obsession with visitor stats and search engine listings and bandwidth and advertising revenue etc etc.At the end of the day non of it means anything if its not a nice place to spend time.
Its worth also not forgetting that without UKH non of us would be friends (either virtual or actual) and non us would be here on this site and, despite the comings and goings of members on UKH its been a focus for many folks who feel out of kilter with mainstream society and the more conventional social media and resulted in many friendships over the years and inspired many adventures.
Thats a regretable loss to all of us regardless of what personal feelings we may individually have over recent past events at UKH. RIP UKH

Nicely put NC. I had been hoping that there would at some point be a reconciliation of sorts but never to be. Pauls hinting of something new but it will not have the vibe of that forum despite certain peeps on it.

This isnt sarcasm,I think if anything new does transpire it will be a vegan lifestyle forum as thats more his field of interest. Hes not a van dweller or traveller or offgridder as such, his beliefs and feelings are rooted in vegan ethics so it would make sense if he worked for those than something thats not reallyin his heart.

It's a shame to see it go, but the internet has changed a lot since it was launched.

Just a few suggestions before UK Hippy closes. If you have any threads you want to save, copy them and repost them to this forum. I did this with Meet The Neighbours. It was a two year old thread and it ran to over thirty pages. It took me, on and off two days. If you have any friends there that aren't already here, make sure they know about this forum. Chances are the actual URL and ukhippies,co.uk are banned from posting and in PMs. PM me and I will give you a link to message people with.
