I've got an old Sony brick pay and go which is only used for emergencies or to meet up with peeps. Other than that it's turned off. The daughter no longer calls me as I gave her a right ear-bending as every time she called it would be on her mobile whilst walking home from work in a shitty area of London. Visions of her getting mugged or run over occurred on every call.
On going through country towns I hardly ever see any peep with a phone stuck to their ear but in town it's a regular sight. Mates with phones don't answer them half the time despite looking to see who's calling which seems to defeat the idea of having them on.
How do you see the mobile, 'over used', an end to normal interaction or what and should there be a time and a place where they should be used or not used??

I'm old enough to remember a simpler time, when I could leave the house in a morning, and no fucker could find me till I was ready to be found! Sadly that luxury is just a distant memory now....

I try to keep my mobile use to a minimum, but it drives me mad when people send messages and expect an instant reply. It can be a nuisance being able to be contacted 24/7

I too can remember the days of a gpo phone, and the phonebox in the village. Hardly ever used either. In my teens i had cb so didnt need one, but the rig was used to arrange to meet friends etc so took the place of the phone.
My mobile phone is useful as a camera and a gps as it is compact and offers a days battery life if in high accuracy mode. My handheld etrex unit uses more battery than that, and doesnt have as many features. Plus you cant take pics with it. If i dont want to be disturbed i turn notifications off and just pick up on anything at the end of the day/weekend/week depending on importance.
When i womble another phone with a decent camera and flash ill just remove the sim and use that one whilst i dont want disturbing instead.

Don't have one , did when they first came out , but got rid in 2000, I hate phones , we have a landline , but I will not answer it as I developed a real phone anxiety thing over 10 years ago, just the ring sets it of ,luckily I can only here it if I am in the kitchen , and I just ignore it , anyone that knows me and wants to contact me will either email or FB message me . I find it shocking how many people are glued to their mobiles and I reckon a modern injury will be touch screen thumb ! I honestly don't know our phone number other than it starts with 8, and we have lived here 8 years . It pisses me of no end if I an buying something on the web and telephone number is a required field ,as I have to go and look .

I remember when I got my first mobile. It was sitting in the van awaiting connection. My pager went off on the A40, just before I got on the M40 to go to the NEC. I had to pull off, and cursed the phone company for not connecting me quickly! So it began....

Must admit that the new generation phones do intrigue me for functions aps and if I could master the tech I'd have one but it would still be switched off.
What does sadden me is the amount of peeps you see when out in beautiful locations just walking like zombies with the phone stuck to their ear.

No more a curse than the Internet. We were better off without that in my opinion. OK so there are plenty of pro points you can name, but is humanity really better off since the Internet? - I think not.
My phone is a tool. My main way (in fact the only way) of accessing the Internet.
It wastes too much of my time its true, but much better than a landline phone for convenience.
I swore I didn't need one for years, but have to confess that I'm something of an addict now!!

It is both a blessing and a curse, it depends on how you use it.
I'm renowned for not answering the call unless it's from someone I'm happy to talk to, and the chances of me ringing someone are very slim, it very rarely happens. I'm more likely to text, but even then, it isn't generally for garbage chit chat.
I frequently block my sister's number as she will bombard me with texts, and if I don't reply either sends further texts asking if I got her last one(s), or even ring me. We don't have the same sense of humour, so in spite of what she thinks, her texts don't make me laugh, they irritate me. I suspect she does not share my sense of the absurd either, tbh, though she will laugh to please me.
However, it's reassuring to have a phone with me and switched on, for emergencies.

It's fair to say I don't use mine much to make calls but it's always useful if I need to look something up or take a photo. I use the alarm clock on it every day, but always switch onto aeroplane mode before bed as I don't want anyone ringing or texting when I'm sleeping.

I use the alarm ecobob, i just put mine on silent before bed and pick up anything important in the morning, or not so important if and when i remember! Alarm still sounds in silent mode.

I do own a mobile, but only have a small amount of credit on it.I'm not a huge fan,but....I am using Whatsapp, and it comes in handy for keeping in touch with family and for sharing photo's.I first owned a mobile years ago due to quite often driving alone due to work, and it felt safer.People I know do become annoyed with me as I am hard to reach and not addicted to phone use. Most days I will only check my mobile once. My pet hate is seeing people having a meal out, especially families, and they're all sat there glued to their phones.

Yes , getting the phone out when having a meal is really rude , resteraunts should have no internet/phone jamming devices , last time I ate out , nearly everyone was more interested in their phones , than the food or each other! Might as well of stayed at home .

My sister now has three phones, with different numbers, all active. She can't give a valid reason as to why she feels she needs three of the damn things, but yeah, she's always glued to them.
