I was pleased to see seed potatoes , onion sets , and beans and peas seeds been sold loose again at my local feed shop , last year they changed to prepacked, but have gone back to loose . I think it was due to public demand, I certainly had complained . They wee not only cheaper loose , but you can get exactly how much you need . I think there is a supermarket in Bristol now where everything is packaging free ?

Most of the little local waste dump sites round here got shut down and replaced by s few bigger private run ones. More rules and regulations and won't take this and that eetc. Now you can't drive half a mile round the area without seeing fly tipped garden waste (pikeys) or piles of fuckin builder's rubbish and tyres! Must cost the cou cil more to go round cleaning it all up than it cost to run the original sites.

That's the thing, it's never about the environment, it's always about the money. Money is why most of the recycling areas have gone, or rather the lack of it. Lack of money earned from them.

The French seem to have nailed the council run tip thing.
It is free, even for commercial reasons, but you have to be from their catchment area. So a builder can dump waste building materials, but only in their local home tip.
The triage of waste is about the same as the UK
There are also a hell of a lot more of them and at least in my area, I am one mile from mine, 8n a village of 1600 people, but the catchment area for the tip is probably close to 5000 , it is only open 4 mornings and one afternoon a week. the odd fly tip is cleaned up immediately.
We get two waste bins picked up each week, one recycle, one general, though sadly this area doesn’t have a great record for recycling most of the waste from the recycle bins. . Glass all goes in glass bins, but I find it odd that it isn’t separated by colour anymore, when they started doing bottle recycling they were all separated by colour.
Fly tipping and street waste round my brothers way in Portsmouth was horrific. The nearest tip was 25 minutes out of town and up the motorway, people would just dump stuff on the street and it would skulk about for a month before the council turned up.

I a big believer in making it easy to recycle, and dump stuff. If it's not easy, don't complain when people fly tip. It's human nature to take the easy route.

I've wondered why the gov't don't standardise jamjars and bottles. That way, they could be washed and re-used like milk bottles. Way less energy than melting down a jamjar or wine bottle just to re-make it in a different shape.

Good point. They only sell the food, they don't tell the messy twats who buy it to throw the rubbish all over... when I was a lad, the council had guys walking round picking shit up, but they've all been laid off to cut costs. Now they keep saying that people on benefits should be made to do it for nowt! Fuckin liberty if you ask me... 😬
