Such a waste. If it was to be preserved for educational purposes or something else longterm then it would be good but just to build it to be burnt. Fingers crossed some hoolie gets to it first with a box of matches............

Meanwhile, whilst we are killing our planet, Gary Lineker has taken a £400,000 paycut.

Good, but non of them deserve those extravagant salaries, especially when its license payers paying them.144 million for on air talent.5 million for executives Sense of entitlement again.
If they want to pay that kind of money out the government should allow them to make more income from its commercial arm instead of limiting it.

Not disputing the charity thing, just the unnecessary pollution and waste of wood -even pallet wood, its good enough for making a mock mayflower its good enough for other things. It just reflects the normal attitude that its ok to burn everything and fill the air with smoke, the smoke goes up there and adds to all the other crap released into it.We all breath that air. Smoke particles influence weather and rainfall. You cant do much about natural fires and volcanic events but I dont see why people think its ok to pollute the atmosphere unnecessarily with air travel vehicles and bonfires- even for charity. They can say that about burning the Amazon its for charity..it doesnt make it right.

Like i said im not disputing theyre a charity, ive read enough on the bbc to see that. Maybe Cavaliers sums their attitude up quite well though.
Id be more impressed if they donated the finished structure for use of charity as an education or kids play area.
Or, since it takes them years to build these things and theyre happy to put their free labour into it,why don't they donate their free labour to charities to help build and repair their facilities.
There seems to be a disconnect of logic somewhere, sorry thats my view, I just think its a bizarre and rediculous way of making money for charity.

they were set up in 1970 as a charity, they have had a bonfire every year since.

Yeah, perhaps that says it all then, their orgsnisations mindset is still set in the 70's when no one gave a crap about the environment.
We still celebrate guy fawkes night hundreds of years after the event when its irrelevant and having millions of bonfires and waste hundreds of millions on fireworks that frighten animals and people...tradition isnt a great excuse for doing stuff.

I don't know Torrington or its people,im not going to comment on that.I just given my view on burning stuff for charity whixh i think is a rediculous as celebrating bonfire night and the death of someone who wanted to start a sectarian war.
Good luck to the Torringtin Cavaliers but i hope theyll re-evaluate the logic theyre using and perhaps donate their thousands of free hours of skill and labour to charity instead of burning their creations and polluting the environment.

maybe things will change post Covid, things will be reevaluated and changed. covid has put paid to a lot of things and I'm surprised that this is actually going ahead given the "rule of 6" thingy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Torrington

Irrespective of covid we all need to change and with covid, adapt to a new outlook on life. NC has said all I'm thinking of this stupid ship idea but the bigger picture now is that the earth needs out help in many ways if we are to have a future.
As for the pillock fathers taking disease and so called religion to a new world, starting genocide on the natives, stealing their land and so on, does it really need celebrating or just consigning to history.............
