Our kitty's been behaving strangely over the weekend, almost like she's frightened of something? She's been coming downstairs into the sitting room and then slinking across the room on her belly before hiding behind the sofa. She wouldn't come into the kitchen to eat her dinner last night and kept looking out of the window and arching her back - I ended up bringing her food into the sitting room for her. She was very skittish and kept coming and wrapping herself round my legs which she doesn't usually do yet when I came downstairs in the night she was stretched out on the sofa with her legs in the air purring her head off. I assumed whatever it was had passed but she's done the same thing again this morning. It's just a bit odd, nothing's changed at home and there's not been anything unpleasant happen so it just seems strange. I think I'll take her to the vet in the week if she doesn't settle down anyway but I wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Has she been attacked in the garden by local cat? Mine comes in weird if hes been in a fight. Cats are weird though, borderline psychotic at times. If it persists see your vet.

Ours is 12 so I guess she's getting into the health problem area now. Can they help with thyroid or is it very difficult with kitties?

She is pretty weird at the best of times but this is out of the ordinary weird for her Lol, I can't see any signs of fighting, she's usually pretty chuffed when she's had a fight and comes in and sort of prances around the sitting room like a boxer walking round the ring but yes, I think I will take her to the vet and see what they think, she's been sleeping under my son's bed on and off today which she tends to do when she's not feeling well.

No she was spade when she was a kitten, she does do weird stuff but this is weird even for her, she's bonkers but I do love her! Don't like it when she's not herself. I think the vets it is, I'll let you know if we get to the bottom of it, thanks everyone xx

If shes 12 she's the right age for things like thyroid problems like m suggested. It can be treated with tablets. But it could be any number of things. They ideally need blood test to check shes normal. Mine was a bit weird a while ago,hes 12 but i worked out hes got a infection in nasal passages, which is common. Hes been weird a long time since he had a head injury.Every time i take him vets they say oh hes had a stroke thats whats wrong and i say no hes had uneven pupil reaction since his head injury, find another diagnosis. Lol Vet visit is probably best option.

Thanks, Cris, I'll take her next week, I am a bit worried about getting into that 'old age cat' stage because of vet bills but hopefully it won't be anything too serious or too expensive Saying that how the bejesus I'd ever get tablets into her I don't know, she's like a tiger lol

Meat paste is your friend. Get some cheapo meat paste, any supermarket will have it for around 25p. Take a small amount and push the tablet into it. Give it to the cat. I have never forced dogs to take tablets, when it's vital to life (heart disease or blood pressure) and for the rest of their life, you just don't do it.

Genius tip with the meat paste, Vannie, I'd never have thought of that She seems to be more like her usual self today which is just as well as I've just discovered our local vet is still shut and they don't know when it will be re-opening. There's another one we can go to but it's a faff with getting taxis plus I'll have to organise my son to bring him with me (the other one is a short walk from the house so if I get an appointment first thing I can be over there and back before he's even out of bed) so I will do it but will have to scratch my head a bit re cost and organising (especially if it does turn out to be 'something' as she needs to go back or go in regularly. There is a charity vet type place but it's the same problem with getting there as well. Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be a big thing now.

Get a selection what works today and all last week, suddenly won't. We had a dog who had cushings disease and very high blood pressure, which nearly killed her before it was diagnosed. She lived five or six years on a total of eight medication and supplement tablets.

Well we've been to the vet today and kitty cat is in better shape than I am lol, full check up and everything's great, teeny bit overweight (unlike myself who really must stop scoffing biscuits) but overall very fit and healthy for her age so she's said just to keep an eye on her in case it happens again but really could have just been something had bothered her and she's back to her usual self now (ie grumpy, annoyed with everyone and refuses to move off the bed when you want to get in it).
