I did just want to say that many years ago, when shops still put individual price labels on things and you had to put the number into the till, I started working at Gateway and on my first shift, loads of the stuff coming through wasn't priced and I got fed up ringing for Maureen to come and sort it out so I started saying "what do you reckon, 15p" to whoever was buying it so lots of people got bargains You lot would have liked that lol, yes, I did get sacked Back in those days a girlfriend of mine had a sister who worked on the till in Sainsburys. If you get my drift...……...

Been involved in disputes a number of times by local supermarkets deciding the offer displayed on the shelf wasnt valid on arrival at the checkout and supervisor has been called to check the shelf price and subsequently been told the checkout price is correct and the shelf label "an error". Checkout prices are controlled by central computer and adjusted in real time as opposed to shelf labelling but retail law says you pay the displayed price. All discount offer labelling has the discount details, the normal price, discount price and validity dates of offer in tiny letters under the main price if you check. Ive taken photos of the bigger discount items and been told they dont allow photography instore but theyve no legal right to stop you, its a public place during hours its open to the public .You only need their permission for publication or commercial reasons or if people figure in the photos whose permission you would need for privacy protection if publishing photos . Anyway, im afraid if it happens regularly on high value items you have to be prepared to use the nuclear option - leave the entire load of shopping at the checkout and walk out if they wont adhere to the displayed discount.
Ive done that 3 times in my local Tesco recently over disputed discounted batteries, cat food and pizza prices. I think they automatically expect you to not buy the disputed item but its a major inconvenience to them if you abandon the entire shopping pile and walk out. Only once has the supervisor chased me and backed down and allowed the item to go through and given a manual refund "for goodwill".
I dont shop at Tesco at all now.Ive gone back to online shopping elsewhere , i get the price charged im expecting to pay at checkout and i dont have to argue with belligerent staff. End of the day, businesses can treat you fairly or they can fuck off, its their loss not yours.
Youre buying the stuff, theyre not giving it you out of charity. If youre not prepared to stand your ground at the time and get the price and service you expect, theres no point complaining about them afterwards.

The main thing you have to remember is this. It's their job to sell, it's not your job to buy!

It doesn't take Captain Obvious to work that out, but if they expect you to buy what they want to sell to you they have to be ethical about it otherwise youll go elsewhere.

I'd bought a jigsaw once (the kind you cut wood with) and had no idea what I was doing with it, so put the blade in wrong and broke it. Took it back to the shop and told the bloke it was me that had done it wrong and asked him if he had the same kind of blades I could buy - he gave them to me for free and put them in for me so I didn't bugger it up again Lol. There are nice people around
