I was on the hunt for bargains as usual yesterday, as ever. I went into a Sainsbury's and there were a large amount of chilled turkies in three fridges. They had already been reduced, but the final reductions were due. A customer came up to me, and said the turkey and turkey crows were being reduced to 25p, he showed me one. The staff member had gone off somewhere, and when he came back he said the manager had said they couldn't be reduced further, and would be thrown away if they didn't sell. What a criminal waste of food! Well done Sainsbury's. Rather than make a few pounds from the turkies, they prefer to throw away EIGHTY SEVEN turkies and turkey crowns. Incensed, and unusually for me, I took to Facebook and posted a photo of one fridge, with a damning post saying they must be leading the way with food waste. Sainsbury's have deleted my post, and must have complained as when I tried to log on to see any reply, I got a message saying there has been some unusual activity on my account. I can't log in. It seems Sainsbury's don't like to be criticised...

That's just fn criminal. Foodbanks can't take fresh like that as far as I know and the amount of needy folk out there who don't get enough to eat could well use that. It needs putting out on social media by someone who pushes the right buttons.
I can remember when I first got married making that Christmas eve trip to Safeways which was a sod back then, just to get the reduced as back then they closed for two or more days and the reductions made the difference as we were always skint at the end of the month.
There's enough there to fill three large freezers and would keep pensioner lunch clubs going for a good few weeks.
Wankers of the first order.

On a similar note, my local Sainsbury's throws away MULTIPLE bin bags of bread DAILY rather than reduce it. I have seen staff do this many times including today, and asked why they don't reduce it, or at least donate it to charities. The answer was that it was the area manager's instruction, but they didn't know why.

Well done you VanWoman84 xx 😘. I think it was really great standing up and naming and shaming Sainsbury’s as there be as already said sooo many out there who need it .. and even the foodbanks would welcome it as well !!! And I loved that fact you be took it too Social Media And esp Facebook which to be honest I really dislike Facebook they be like having a spy in the sky and airwaves watching clocking and studying each and everyone who uses it EEEEEEEK !! But social media and Facebook do and does get your words out there and seen and Why Obviously Sainsbury’s deleted your pics and post !!! Because they don’t want any negative backlash from it and bad press !! So my Little Turkey Warrior I be very proud of you and say well done you too Snd this world of man is far a better place with caring loving warriors who are not be afraid to rip into the Big Companies and stand up for your beliefs like you VanWoman84 ... as you bring a Voice to often a far too silent world and. Bring beautiful colour too To this often grey world and bring hope and caring for the many that are homeless and hungry who face sooo many struggles everyday as you are there voices too . ((((hugggs))) xxx

Sounds like the old chickengate fiasco. A guy from Sheffield if I remember right was selling rotten chickens to schools, hospitals etc. The carcasses were being thrown on the concrete floor & steam cleaned to get rid of the smell & slime before being repacked & sold to all manner of places....

@pixiepie, I saw that too, on Sainsbury's Facebook page ironically. If the shop (or even the who chain) suspected the turkey wasn't fit, why even reduce it? Just throw it away! Still smacks of wanting the last profit off it, regardless of quality.
