Givingitsomethought...I was in that situation. After one of the nephews threw down the money I gave him and said" is that all".I stopped it all.I didnt ever send them anything after that and spent the money on my own child. All the parents did the same, all were happier with the arrangement. There was a lot less stress all round. Oh my God, Cricket, that's awful, I'd be mortified if my child did that and would start wondering where I'd gone wrong, it would really bother me! That is terrible, well I'm not surprised you didn't send anything after that! I did have a to do with my sister last year when she didn't even bother to send my son a birthday card. I pointed out that I send all four of her kids cards and money for their birthdays so the least she could do was send him a card. She did then send him a really nice watch, which wasn't the point - it's not about the how much for me, just about the effort of showing you're bothered enough to mark the event (for a child, I'm not bothered about myself). Yes, good, spend it on your own boy, at least you know it's being appreciated!

Had my hair cut today at my turky barbers and whilst there overheard another customer saying he'd spent over £900 for christmas so far and hadn't yet bought his wife her present. His barber reckoned he'd spent over £400. Just wondering who the sad fuck is, them blowing that much for one day, or me thinking what I could do with that much cash over a year.
I used to do the same thing, fenrisulfr, I worked out one Christmas (when my son was small) that I'd spent more on other people than I had on him and the money I'd spent on everyone else would have paid for a camping trip or a weekend away somewhere. Really brought me to my senses (not least because we were on our own and not one person bothered to phone). After that I switched to making sweets and treats but even that is quite expensive and time consuming, so now I just get small pressies for friends who don't have family, son gets his wish list from Santa and I go into the New Year without a big dent in my bank balance (or no bigger than normal anyway!). I don't think you are sad for wishing you had that money for yourself! A lot of people would be very appreciative of a cash injection at some point in the year

I nearly bought a box of cards, then I found an ancient box from years gone by so have used those instead. It's gonna be a cheap Christmas in the Ramtops. No expense will be given. 😊🎄🎅 Corvus, we did Christmas postcards this year - just chopped the front picture bit off last year's cards and sent it like a postcard Son's presents are wrapped in paper that has probably been in use for about five years now, lol, I just get him to open it carefully, fold it up and put it back in the box for next year Lol x

The annual Christmas festival is finished, everyday boring normality has now finished installing, we can all go home now.
