www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-5015007039 bodies of suspected illegal migrants were discovered in a refrigerated lorry trailer yesterday. This is just so sad. The evil people who took the migrant's money and put them in a SEALED container need to be stopped.

Breaking (unconfirmed) news. The 39 people who died were Chinese nationals.

When I first heard about this I wondered if the truck was refrigerated. This meand the 39 victims either suffocated (if the fridge motor was off) or froze to death.

Two people have been arrested in Cheshire on suspicion of people trafficking.

not a lot of details still 8 of them were females they say some may be from Vietnam on yahoo a woman reported that her daughter text her a said she was in danger but was not sure if she was in the lorry it also stated that the family had paid smugglers £30,000 to get her to England what i think is really sad the smugglers will not like this not because 39 people have died [murdered] but its bad press for what they are doing

I heard all of that valdez, the girl who is reported missing said on a text she couldn't breathe. It's all so sad. |

I've not read it, too horrible, there's just too much greed. There's no reason why people should have a standard of living anywhere that's so crap they're willing to pay that much to go and work somewhere else. I can't even imagine how desperate I'd need to be to get in the back of a lorry with no real idea of where I might end up.

Most of these young Chinese illegals are forced to come here to work because their families back home are in hock to loan sharks and this is how they can try to pay off the debt and restore the family honour.

A people trafficking specialist on the radio said there's a wide range of 'plans' for getting illegal immigrants from Vietnam. They range from $15,000 for basic (back of a truck) to $50,000 gold standard (private accommodation and training for nail bars).
I can't help thinking that, if I could lay your hands on $50,000 in Vietnam (even via a loanshark) I would take the money an live on it!!

On the radio just now the police are appealing for information from illegal immigrants.
Sadly I doubt any illegal immigrants will help. Even if they guarantee no action will be taken at this stage, their names will be on a list.

More updates. The truck the 39 died in is now thought to be one of three, carrying more than 100 illegal migrants. A Catholic Priest in Vietnam has said he knows that there were over 100 people leaving his parish "for a new life".
It's not known why, but it seems the truck where the 39 died was somehow delayed, presumably separated from the other two trucks.
