Always some big outfit avoiding paying their dues. Knocks on & the little people (us) always end up making up the shortfall. Gap between rich & poor gets ever wider & gov do Fuck all about it cos they're all milking the fuckin system for all they can. This country's upper class suck! Greedy self serving bastards the lot of em....
Exactly bigbear67 Don't tell me I shouldn't have claimed for that bus fare back in 2014, then claw it back plus interest! When self employed, under HMRC guidance, worked through their own companies, they didn't expect to be handed a BIG bill years later because her maj changed her mind...
Uber are registered in Loxemberg so they can legally operate in UK and pay tax in lLuxemberg.lots of big companies like Costa and Netflix do the same but in Ireland. Hopefully the loophole will be closed when we leave the EU
I think the solution would be to make companies of any size pay tax where their profit is made. Did the uber ride happen in the UK? Then the tax gets paid in the UK. I bet the baristas with EU passports have to pay UK tax.
Totally agree, the tax rate applicable should be that in the territory of the point of sale not where the corporate head office is based.
If the sale is in the UK it should attract uk taxation not the tax rate applicable in some convenient tax haven or cosy arrangement. The government(all governments)should make it illegal for companies to trade in their territory if the company does not pay the applicable tax rate for that territory.
Im also getting tired of the HMRC stance on tax avoidance. If youre a little man on the street they hound you relentlessly for every penny and fine you heavily on a daily basis until you pay. They dont give a fuck if you dont have it.If you dint have it they take you your possessions and take you to court.
If youre a corporate that owes billions then you can make a cosy arrangement and pay fuck all.
People should boycott corporates that pay no tax....but they wont because people like to whinge and moan but dont want to alter their own consuming behaviour and buy elsewhere, thats why these bastards get away with it year after year.
If everyone had to pay at a flat rate, maybe 20% irrespective of size or profit margin it would be fairer, no silly tax brackets for super earners just a flat rate but no get out clause. Every penny earned by anyone over the minimum earnings threshold taxed at 20% no excuses. What's the point saying these big firms earn enough to pay tax at 45% then not taking a penny from them? If it is money earned here it should be taxed here, but at a standard rate. Maybe then the big outfits might not mind paying it... Hang on I just dropped my rose tinted glasses!....😕
Its not just individuals and corporates avoiding tax that leaves the country short. The government pays out billions in corporate subsidies they dont need to receive. Its corporate welfare, but its ok for them to get welfare handed to them but not we ordinary scrotes claiming it.
Uber was last night accused of exploiting a loophole to avoid paying millions in tax that helps it undercut rivals. Wow Uber avoiding tax. What a surprise
If you go to work for Uber all your pay has to be paid into a bank account. But they offer to open an account for you in Luxemberg and tell you up front there is no way the tax man or the benefits people will ever know how much you are earning. You are not being paid anything in UK you are paid in Luxemberg
