I've always translated "Hippy" as "Live and Let Live", so wouldn't consider it an insult.

would not class myself as a hippy and being called one would not bother me i have been called a lot lot worse

I would not care if somebody called me a hippy as an insult, I would take it as a compliment because it means I am not like them with their group herd mentality.

Amount of things I've been called over the years, I don't mind "Hippy" at all its nearly a term of endearment in comparison....
