I dont feel over 35. But what happend to the hitchhikers. I used to love giving lifts, much to my wifes irritation. The thing is I used to hitch everywhere, even down to the shops. On long hitching journeys, was I was envious of car owners, particularly when it rained. Took me three days once to get from London to St Ives. I owe the great spirit 'reciprocity' a massive debt.

As it is reciprocated, surely there is no debt at all !
Good advice there though chap,in that getting in debt is best avoided,so just keep giving :-)

Hitchikers? Could be an axe murderer! We hitched many years ago to Blackpool. Vanman swears one lift we got in the middle of the night were car thieves! Still got to where we were going though...

I took to picking up rubbish on foot paths when walking the dog. Not virtuous just as out of boredom -yea I wanted to shame the locals that walk by it and do nothing. Can you imagine my delight years later that others are doing it, secretly i might add.

Maybe just out of boredom, but very honourable all the same, well done :-) Last week I turned up in a beauty spot on the side of a lake here in Burgundy and found quite a few hippyish looking young folk wild camping next to where someone had broken a windscreen or back window and left loads of shards of glass all over a grassy bank and onto the edge of a small beach. I was a little upset that they had been there for a while and certainly would of noticed that the nicest camping spot was out of order due to the glass. No point being upset really,so I took a couple of hours cleaning it all up so that others could go bare foot and enjoy their picnics and beach time.
The universe obviously left the good karma points there for me to make, though I hope that the younger campers did notice and maybe learn something from my example !!
I reckon anyone who picks up litter will get a positive reaction coming back to them and if not,at least many people will enjoy the beauty of the spot in the future and appreciat how nice and clean it is.
So just like dukeofearl, keep picking up that crap peeps as it is a win win for you :-)

In my viewpoint,a hippy getting branded a nutter is as right as a normal person being called normal :-)
Thinking about it,I would much prefer to be a nutter in a tidy and respectful world rather than normal in a messy world !! Maybe best I put a few more hours into tidying then !!

On long hitching journeys, was I was envious of car owners, particularly when it rained. Took me three days once to get from London to St Ives. I owe the great spirit 'reciprocity' a massive debt. Probably a combination of reasons but mostly because its pretty much illegal to pick up and set down hitch hikers on slip roads. Far too dangerous on most A roads and dual carriageways with the speed and volume of traffic these days, most truck companies make it a sackable offense carrying or picking up passengers and generally the chance of picking up some unstable nutcase (or being picked up by one) are pretty high too. Ive hitched a lot years ago and used to pick up hitchers but more times than not ive regretted both. Ive had some interesting company and some unpleasant too. The very last hitcher i picked up in my truck said absolutely nothing for 150 miles and ate his way through a family size pack of cheese and onion crisps, stinking my cab out. On arrival at the services wed agreed i could drop him at he refused to get out and i had to physically throw him out of the cab. I wont pick anyone else up. Times, they are a changing,we inhabit a different world to back then.
