I am currently wondering if I can get to Wales (Wrexham) to pick up an ancient Volvo estate. My ex asked if I knew anybody looking for a cheap car, a mate of his was selling two different vehicles for what Peter called scrap value and what I call taking the piss.
Long story short, I actually really fancy the Volvo but don't want the ownership of a car, just the use now and then. Of course the fact that it is 200 miles from me also rules it out
It turns out that Peter also wants the Volvo for when he is in England (he spends most of his time in Portugal) but needs a place to keep it. He will buy it, keep it in his name and I can use it if I insure it. I don't think that I have a hope in hell of getting to Wrexham, but it gives me something to think about 😁😁😁

parrotandcrow how old is the volvo? Over 15 years it might qualify for classic insurance. Over 40 years old (1981) it's tax and test exempt.

It's an '83, Vannie. Has a year's mot but that would not be my problem anyway, it would be Pete's. Tax due this year and next, then no more. It's rusty, no surprise, again it would be up to Peter to sort as and when, his car, not mine. We have shared cars like this in the past when we lived together and even after we broke up I stored and used a couple of his motorbikes.
I really would like to get this car up here, all of the fun, someone else has the hassle of ownership. 😁

If you were nearer I would fetch it for you. Hang on to it for two years and it's free road tax! You can get temporary insurance to collect it. To give you an idea of classic insurance costs, I paid the same for a weekend as I did for the remaining 4 months to renewal on vanman's pressie. That was £32!!
Edit! If the car was registered in 83, it could have been made in 82, which means it might be tax exempt next year. Age goes on manufacture, not registration.

I'm looking into having it transported. It isn't cheap, but cheaper than me buying a banger to run for a year then ditch. The free tax and no need for mot is the biggest draw for Peter. If he does decide to get it, I'll pay for the transporter then I'm mobile, yeah. 😍

Still no propshaft repairs yet Maggie? You guess right. A couple of promises but which are still open ended. Fwiw, I have no doubt it will be done but the longer Iris sits, the more other things will also need doing - mice eating the wiring etc. 🙄 She needs a really good run out.
