Bigbear it's the supermarkets that dictate the appearance of veg ect. The nice looking apples sell, the funny looking one don't. So the supermarkets reject en masse the ones that don't win the beauty contest. As ever, it's business and money that rules. They then blame th EU, but it's all about the money. Stuff doesn't sell they lose money. Simples. YES VW - supermarkets dictate where we get our food from and how the produce is treated. Governments across the world have dumbed down our education system, our health care system and now our food chain is being poisoned. But ahh well ...the big boys will still make money from our health care when we are all in hospital with aches, pains, bits falling off our bodies, growths and cancers. Like Bungo said homegrown veg and produce is the way to go. If I could afford to, I would buy everything from local farm shops or rear my own livestock as I have done before. but thats not an option for the moment. I used to like Lidls but have since noticed they sell stuff I'm not willing to consume. I had a loaf of bread from there once - I don't eat a lot of bread so I don't get through an entire loaf. The loaf sat in the cupboard for well over a month before it went off - im like wtf? Whats this stuff made of that it doesn't go rock hard and grow a fur coat ! Lidl lemons are treated with a carcinogenic fungicide with is harmful to fish and humans. Margarine is liquid plastic... There is petrol formula in blue energy drinks FFS ( I don't drink or eat blue food anyways yuck) What are they playing at? and noodles take 8 hours sometimes more to digest in your stomach because its not real food. |

all bread for all the supermarket chains is made in the same huge factory in Hemel Hempstead. I used to work next door to it and people I worked with had family who worked there.
The production lines ran 24 hours and all that changed was the names on the bags on the packing lines.
Don't ever get the idea that one supermarket chain is better bread than another. My advice to you is buy a bread maker and do your own. Or better still don't eat bread, wheat irritates the lining of the bowel.

The answer is because the Spanish growers are getting massive subsidies from the EU that British growers don't get Where did you get that from? I've just read a fair bit of the common agricultural policy and can't find a single thing to back up your anti EU propaganda. Saying that Spain receives 15% of the total agricultural subsidies where as Britain only gets 9% of the total budget. Now before anyone gets a here soap box out shouting about how to thats unfair, Spain has 15% of EU agriculture whereas Britain only has 9%, same % as the monitory split. A farmer is Spain receives the same subsidies as a farmer in the uk per hectare. |

Difference is Spanish farmers aren't paying through the nose for everything they need to buy in order to grow those crops. They don't pay the same rates of tax or vat that UK farmers do & they don't get made to abide by stupid fuckin rules like UK growers. Remember our waters being decimated by Spanish fishermen while our own trawler fleet was sat idle due to quotas? Don't remember Spanish boats having to throw tons of perfectly good but dead fish back into the sea or risk being jailed. Subsidies may be fairly divided, but the rules only seem to apply to us....

We don't set the Spanish rates tho. Point is the rest of Europe are at an advantage over us, & always were. Even with their advantage they still don't abide by the rules, rules set up by the EU to "protect" all member states. We never should have gone into Europe in the first place. We were conned then same as we're being fuckin conned now....

Since this has became a EU thread can I just say I'm looking forward to a no deal brexit in October and hoping we don't pay the divorcé settlement.
Not for any political reason more for shits and giggles, it's just a case of watching all the brexiteers getting what they want then realising how terrible it's is and how much of a mistake they've made. Latest economic forecasts are predicting a 30 year recession for the uk, yes that's right THIRTY FUCKING YEARS OF RECESSION. Now who exactly voted for that?

Since this has became a EU thread can I just say I'm looking forward to a no deal brexit in October and hoping we don't pay the divorcé settlement. Not for any political reason more for shits and giggles, it's just a case of watching all the brexiteers getting what they want then realising how terrible it's is and how much of a mistake they've made. Don't be deluded...We are already in a recession in fact it is a DEPRESSION. Like the Great Depression of the 1940's We have more companies going out of business than ever before, Suicides are up Unemployment is up Poverty is at an all time high the highest its been for many years the divide between rich and poor is significantly wider. Need I go on. And guess what. We are going to be worse off than our previous generations in the 1940's because ... Great f*cking Britain does not have the industry it used to have nor doesn't it have the land to be self sufficient because we keep building roads and housing estates on it. The population of the UK is significantly higher than it was in the 1940's The good old days that the Brexiteers wanted are long gone. So we are not heading for a recession we are IN A DEPRESSION. Its just everybody is in denial and not ready to accept that. |

Your also forgetting leaving the EU will be the easiest deal in history because they need us more than we need them. Better together, strong and stable, brexit means brexit and what ever pish they spout

All our problems, including being sucked dry by Europe & the sad lack of industry could be solved by a decent government who gave a shit about our country & wanted to see it flourish. Trouble is the greedy bastards would rather line their own pockets and the pockets of their hangers on, & fuck this country & its population. We are seen as a thing to be exploited & bled dry. Never mind brexit, our biggest problem is the cunts who claim to be in charge here. Sort that problem out & everything else will follow suit....
