I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned this before now. I have mixed feelings about the actual protest and it's form. I was particularly stunned about Emma Thompson's massively hypocritical action of FLYING 5400 miles to get to the protest.
What's your thoughts?

The Thompson thing sums up my opinion of them. I joined them at the early stage and then realised from their discussion on social nedia theyre not really grassroots greenies theyre a bunch of privileged whiners and hoorah henries IMO so i left. I think the majority of folks see them that way. They wont get anywhere, just the same as violent window smashing car burning protests get anywhere. The government always responds the same way. Inconveniencing the public will undermine their objective.
What they should be doing since most are clever intellectuals is using the media, using social media and lobbying the public outside shopping stores and supermarkets and cinemas and takeaways and pushing these issues in everyones face 24/7 tackling and changing consumer attitudes to waste and pollution, theyd get more support and industry and government would have have to listen. As they are theyre just come across as privileged folks annoying and inconveniencing everyone and people will get bored with them.
A bit like the hippy protests of the 60's and 70's when most hippies were of well to do middle class backgrounds.
Its consumers and their habits they need changing its them they should be targeting in an informative way not bullying or intimidatory but pushing the message that we all need to change. Government will only act if its popular with voters and manufacturers are feeling the pinch and pressuring government.

They don't really have a firm objective. On LBC, one 'spokesperson' said they wanted to eliminate carbon emissions in the UK by 2025. No clue as to how it would happen.

Again its simply going to alienate the public who just want to enjoy the holiday. There seems to be a complete disconnect in any logical thinking.

I'm happy to see something fairly major and disrupting hit the news to be honest. I don't know how the public are feeling about it in general, maybe it's put some people off the climate-change debate somewhat, but it is and would continue to be strange if everyone just carried on as normal at this point.
It seems to coincide nicely with a David Attenborough commentary and documentary that he put out recently. Hopefully people begin to pick up a general interest and find small ways to help themselves. I really don't think the UK government can be said to have made all that much effort for the importance of the environment.

I'm just glad to see something other than brexit in the news.

I love, love, love this protest and would be there if I could be.
For those of you concerned that stuff like this is pointless and irritating; remember that Mahatma Ghandi devised and used this method to break up the British Empire and win India independence.

There was a great phrase in a film years ago with reference to ghandi stated ' one anorexic loony in a loin cloth and we lost an entire sub continent '
I do not think that he would of been insulted :-)

Maybe having these extinction rebellion 'loons' on TV will help to raise the bar for everyone else. We've had naked people on air for the brexit protests - bring on more lovely crazy people talking about the environment!

Apparently it's sort of worked. The protesters are switching to more talk based solutions.
